Hi all,
I just came across the MN website and noticed that I'm still counted
as vacating. What I wanted to do was to return from vacation, give
my MN goods to Slakko, and leave the game. Did this mail never
arrive, or did I choose a wrong format?

I wouldn't worry about it. I think the whole of MacroNomic has gone on
permanent vacation.

Frank,
I did this on my assets page.. Lambda has been very idle however, and I
haven't heard anything from him in quite a while.

It can in fact still be ressurrected merely by someone noting who hasn't
done or said anything in 2 weeks, removing them and figuring out who is
what after that. I'd been waiting to see if people were still
interested.

We STILL haven't had an update (hint, hint). We got it though.
lambda is still around. He claims he's too busy. Personally, I have no
idea what's taking up so much of his time. He says he's about half way
through the update.

Of the two of those, keeping the rules updated seems to be the harder
task, but again, I'd be willing assuming noone else wants it.

Aidan? Slakko? Kid? Bueller?

I'm not sure. If I distribute and handle votes, and someone else
does the rules, it sounds about even. We can work out the final details
later.
So, has anyone seen lambda around lately? Ah well. As the SoT, I
am going to ignore all votes cast on these proposals. I offer a
Secretarylet of Truth to JT, along with 3 prop commodities. Here they are:

195: Dan
Date: Aug 29/Sep 2
A player may go on vacation for not more than 6 weeks. To go on
vacation, e must publicly announce eir intent to do so. When a player
returns from vacation, e must publicly announce that fact, and at that
point may resume all of eir duties. A player is also considered to have
returned from vacation 6 weeks after e left. If a player returns while a
voting period is in progress they will not lose any loyalty if they fail to
vote.

While a player is on vacation, e may not perform any official game
action. A player on vacation may also not be penalized in any way for
actions not performed while on vacation. A player on vacation may not be
selected to judge a case, and if e is a Professor, e is not required to
become a teaching professor. This Section takes precedence over all other
Sections with which it conflicts.

196: Lambda
Date: Sep 2/2
Replace the second paragraph of Section 4-0 with the following
LETTHEVOTERSSEEWHATTHEYREVOTINGON-delimited text:
LETTHEVOTERSSEEWHATTHEYREVOTINGON
When an Internomic proposal is made, the Secretary of Love will
create a INP and privately inform all of the Liasons of Sovereign Republics
of it. The liaisons for each Sovereign Republic should then vote as
specified by the INP. If any Republic is selected to judge an Internomic
CFJ then the liason from that Republic will create an INCFJ and privately
inform all of the Liasons of Sovereign Republics of it. That liason should
inform Internomic of the decision of the CFJ, as decided by the INCFJ, and
should write reasoning to support it. A player may submit a proposal to
Internomic by privately informing the liaison of any of the Republics of
the proposal they would like to make.
LETTHEVOTERSSEEWHATTHEYREVOTINGON

And the revised vote farm counts if JT accepts my offer:

Towsner: NONE [10+2(SoU)+2(SoJ)+2(SoT)=16]
JT Traub: NONE [16+5(SoE)+2(SoG)+3(SoT)=26]
The Kid: NONE [10+3(ASoF)=13]
Dan: NONE [10]
Philo: NONE [10] On Vacation
Slakko: NONE [20]

Please resubmit any proposals you sent lambda.

Okay.. I've downloaded the stuff from lambda's site and will work on
bringing it up to date. I hopefully will have the up-to-date info at my
site (on nausicaa.net) by this weekend.

you probably want to change the 'dates' on these props though to Oct 7.

I note that you haven't actually noted that I've been away, you've just
noted the fact that if you do, I'd be removed from the game. And since I'm
the one noting this fact, it is null and void, as saying that I haven't
said anything is aying something. (BTW, if you really want to be picky, I
did say "!" less that 2 weeks ago) and I'm still a player. So, I make
official the transfer of the SoT to Henry. By the way, I don't think you
need to resubmit anything, since I've sent all of the undistributed
proposals I have to JT and Henry. And I vote FOR all proposals I possibly
can, just to help get the nomic moving again, since it was my fault that it
fell into a state of disrepair. I humbly apologise to everyone for the
trouble. I grovel at your feet. I submit myself to public humiliation. I
give 1 of each type of proposal commodity to each player.

Well, I'm glad you are still around. If you still wish to maintain the
website and such, I would happily leave that with you as I (honestly)
don't have the time for it and would only have done it in extremis.

I might possibly be able to look after the website, although i am a little
inexperianced in website management (i can make em but i've never published
one before) and in nomic affairs in general (only joined this year

No, the reason I've not made any updates in a while is that I haven't had
time to make updates either. I'd be willing to help, but I can't keep up
the website. (During the summer I had plenty of time, but now that school
has started, I don't have the time to do both the website and my homework).

Well, I was pretty inexperienced before I did the MacroNomic site, and I
found that keeping it up was good for learning HTML and web site
maintenence, and learning the rules of the nomic. I joined the nomic in
about may, and took over the SoT in June, and I'd only been in one other
nomic before (that died pretty quickly). So give it a shot, its an
educational experience, but remember to get out of it if it overwhelms you.

BTW, I think you should reset your clock or date on your computer, the time
stamps on your emails are pretty strange, and that causes my email client
to put the messages out of order.

So you want me to run the website then? it'll take a couple of weeks to
sort it out but i'll give it a shot.

Well, that page is a little out of date, and we are working on getting a
new one up. However, you still can join, it will just be a little harder to
understand what's going on without a good reference. To play the game, send
the message "subscribe" in either the subject or the body of an email to
<macronomic-request@dragoncat.net>, and we'll be happy to get you started,
and help you out.

To all you older Macrons out there, we've got a new player here. Various
secretaries should perform their duties and give him whatever objects he
needs. What I can remember off the top of my head are 1 of each type of
proposal commodity and 10 acres of farmland, a professor (Has Henry's
position as prof. expired yet?), and of course 0 Loyalty and 0 Trotsky
Points.

(Note to Gunnar: We are slightly mixed up currently, and I'm writing this
at 2:30 AM, so I may have forgotton something, or not made any sense at
all. Don't worry, it'll get better)

Perhaps you should check your date then. Here are the timestamps in correct
thread order:

My mesage:
>Date: 8 Oct 98 00:15:16 -0400

JT's reply:
>Date: Wed, 7 Oct 1998 22:37:54 -0700 (PDT)

Your reply to JT's reply:
>Date: Wed, 07 Oct 1998 19:29:32 +0100

Converting everything to GMT gives us:

My message: 8 Oct 1998 4:15:16
JT's Reply: 8 Oct 1998 5:37:54
Your reply to JT's reply: 7 Oct 1998 18:29:32

If I did all of my calculations right, it seems that you're a day off.

>So you want me to run the website then? it'll take a couple of weeks to
>sort it out but i'll give it a shot.

It depends on what JT wants; if he thinks he has enough time, then he can
do it, but if he wants to pass it off to you, I think that would be OK,
too.

I know in fact that I really don't have the time to do it, so would be
greatful of Aidan doing it.

That does sound sensible, like i sed, i'll give it a shot but i have a
feeling that i won't be able to keep it up forever, right now i'm just
starting my a-levels and the werk isn't 2 tuff, but it'll get harder. I'll
try and do it for as long as is humanly possible though.

BTW wasn't there some talk a while back about automating the distribution
of props? perhaps if we got that working, you (Towsner) could take over the
website and become the entire SoT.

To summarise i will accept the ASoT if i am offered it but am making no
promises about keeping it up forever.

Dan

ps. i have downloaded lambda's site and am in the throws of playing around
with it a bit.

pps. my time and date are all correct, as i write this it is saturday the
10th of October 1998. The time on my computer is 12:25. I am just about
to send this e-mail. IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!!!!

I'm also in the UK and my headers say 12:25 on 10th October, so I rekon
Aidans clock is fine. For reference, it's currently 9:08 on 12th October.
See if that matches the headers.....

Yes, now his headers say the right thing, but they were a day off. I guess
it must have been fixed already. Or maybe my email client was doing strange
things, but only with his messages.

I'm sending out results tomorrow, so you'd all better vote. Also,
may I suggest that we create a centralized place for the players list (like
geocities) so that all the player information is on one page maintained by
all of the responsible players?

we are voting on two proposals, they are:

There are going to be some formatting changes. I'm not going to
record that date things were proposed (it's unimportant, confusing, and a

think of so far. New props are coming out Thursday.

I have updated the assets page with these. I did *not* give the RP any
vouchers for the weeks when everyone seemed dead to the world and would
support a proposal to time warp those weeks out of existance.

Just so that anyone who doesn't recall knows, the assets page is at
http://www.nausicaa.net/~jtraub/macro/assets.html

I also resign as the active secretarylet of truth (I really don't have the
time for keeping the rules page for here up to date).

Create rule 4-0-0-2, "Foreign Relations" with the following
REALPOLITIK-delimited text
REALPOLITIK
The Foreign Relations of the Sovereign Republics (as described by
Internomic's rules) are determined by two things. Some relations are
determined by "Standing Orders", which are descendants of 4-0-0-2-0. The
remaining relations can be changed by a Letter of Marque and Reprisal. A
Letter of Marque and Reprisal may not change a relation such that it would
conflict with a Standing Order. If a relation with a nomic has not been
specified by one of these methods, it is neutral.
REALPOLITIK

Create rule 4-0-0-2-0 "Standing Orders" reading "All descendants of
this rule are standing orders."

Create rule 4-0-0-2-1, "Letters of Marque and Reprisal" with the
following LMR-delimited text
LMR
A Letter of Marque and Reprisal is a referendum. The Secretary of
Love is the accountant for them. Any player may issue one by sending it to
the Secretary of Love. They may only contain changes to the relation of a
sovereign republic to another nomic. Only liaisons may vote on them. When
two liaisons have voted the same way, the Letter will become inactive
immediately. When a Letter of Marque and Reprisal becomes inactive, if a
majority of votes are FOR, then the changes to relations will be enacted
unless they conflict with a Standing Order.
LMR

Create rule 4-0-0-2-0-0, "Opponents of Expansion" with the
following REVENGE delimited text
REVENGE
Any nomic which has voted against a proposal to make a Sovereign
Republic a voting member of Internomic will be an enemy of all Sovereign
Republics.
REVENGE

Create rule 8, "The Underworld" with the following
DISHONEST-delimited text.
DISHONEST
There are a number of underworld organizations. It is a criminal
offense to have any dealings with them.
DISHONEST

Create rule 8-0, "The Sabateurs" with the following NAUGHTYNAUGHTY
delimited text
NAUGHTYNAUGHTY
The sabateurs are an underworld organization and an entity. A
player who has at least 7 vouchers may deal with them by publicly stating
that they want the sabateurs to sabatoge a given player. 7 vouchers will
be taken from the requesting player and given to the sabateurs, and one
vote farm in the possesion of the named player is destroyed. Whenever the
sabateurs have at least 10 vouchers, they get bold and destroy a vote farm
owned by a member of the Revolutionary Party, but lose 10 vouchers.
NAUGHTYNAUGHTY
[Anyone can do this, but for non RP's it's a crime-and the RP isn't
likely to be happy about it. As for RP's, the boldness thing is a good
reason for RP's not to get into a fight]

Create a new child of rule 3, "Motions" reading as delimited by
ROBERTSRULESOFORDER
ROBERTSRULESOFORDER
Motions are a type of referenda. All motions must be made to an
Assembly. The Accountant for a motion is the Moderator of the Assembly the
motion is made to. All members and only members of the Assembly may vote
on a motion unless a rule allows a more or less limited voting group for an
Assembly. A motion becomes inactive if it has been a highest level motion
for at least one week, or another rule specifies that it becomes inactive.
A motion is made by informing the Moderator for that Assembly, only a
player who could vote on the motion may make it. Motions are given a name
which is the name of the Assembly they were made to followed by the lowest
positive integer to make it a unique name. When a motion becomes inactive,
if more players voted FOR than AGAINST, it is accepted, otherwise it fails.
A given type of motion is ether Primary, Secondary or Internal, and
either Final or Buildable. The default values are Internal and Final.
Secondary motions are either Exclusive or Polite, Exclusive by default.
Primary motions may only made to an Assembly if the floor is clear.
Secondary motions may only be made on top of Buildable motions which do not
have an Exclusive Secondary motion on top of them. Internal motions may
only be made is specifically allowed for the relevant type of Assembly.
ROBERTSRULESOFORDER

Create a child of "Motions", "Assemblies" reading as delimited by
CALLEDBYDRWEINTRAUB
CALLEDBYDRWEINTRAUB
An Assembly is a group of players. An Assembly's Floor is always
clear unless otherwise specified.
CALLEDBYDRWEINTRAUB

Create a new child of "Assemblies", "Drafting Assemblies" with the
following CALLEDBYANYONE delimited text.
CALLEDBYANYONE
A Drafting Assembly is a type of Assembly. Any player may create a
Drafting Assembly by publicly announcing that e intends to do so, along
with the initial text for a proposal; that player becomes the Moderator for
the Assembly. The initial text becomes the text of the Assembly, and is
altered by Primary motions to amend, which may be made to Drafting
Assemblies. Any player may join or leave a Drafting Assembly by publicly
asking to. A Motion to Propose and Adjourn may be made to a Drafting
Assemblies.
CALLEDBYANYONE

Create a child of "Motions", "Motion to Close", reading as
delimited by TABLEINDEFINATELY
TABLEINDEFINATELY
A Motion to Close is a Secondary Polite Final motion. If it is
accepted, the motion it applies to immediately becomes inactive and all
motions above that motion become and active and fail; this sentence takes
precedence over "Motions".
TABLEINDEFINATELY

Create a child of "Motions", "Motion to Amend", reading as
delimited by TWEAKINGHERE
TWEAKINGHERE
A Motion to Amend is a Buildable motion, and can be either Primary
or Secondary Polite. If it is accepted as a Secondary motion, the motion
it applies to is amended is specified in the motion. If it is accepted as
a Primary motion the effect is specified by the Assembly. Primary Motions
to Amend may only be made if explicitly permitted by the Assembly it is
made to.
TWEAKINGHERE

Create a child of "Motions", "Motion to Adjourn", reading as
delimited by DISSOLVE
DISSOLVE
A Motion to Adjourn is an Internal Final motion. If it is accepted
all active Motions to the Assembly become inactive and the Assembly is
destroyed.
DISSOLVE

Create a child of "Drafting Assemblies", "Motion to Propose and
Adjourn" with the following LONGNAME delimited text
LONGNAME
A Motion to Propose and Adjourn is an Internal Final
motion. If it is accepted all active Motions to the Assembly become
inactive, the Assembly is destroyed, and a proposal is made with the text

An Ambassador is an appointed Secretaryship. There is one for
every game of nomic in existance. An Ambassadorship is not filled unless
explicitly appointed; it never reverts by default to the Secretary of the
Central Committee; this sentence takes precedence over all other rules. An
Ambassador is expected to remain in communication with the nomic they are
Ambassador to and to convey information between the nomics. An Ambassador

to which they are an Ambassador, and should encourage both nomics to find

Amend rule 3-1-0 to read "The set of legal votes on a Proposal is
FOR, AGAINST, LOYAL, ATTEMPTED, DIGNIFIED SILENCE, and NONE. A vote of
LOYAL may not be cast on a proposal that is made by a player who is a
Prole. An attempt to do so will have no effect on the game. When a proposal
is created, the vote of the player who made it is initially FOR; the vote
of every other player is initially NONE. Only members of the Revolutionary
Party may make a vote of DIGNIFIED SILENCE. Votes of DIGNIFIED SILENCE are
ignored when determining the results of a proposal. When a member of the
Revolutionary Party votes DIGNIFIED SILENCE, no member of the Revolutionary
Party receives a Trotsky point for that proposal. No player may change eir
vote to ATTEMPTED. If a player's vote is deinvalidized, it is changed to
ATTEMPTED and becomes protected."

I know.. but it's good to have a 'I really dont want to vote on this' vote
anyway, and this does fit that.

The machine which hosted my macronomic web information was last night hit
by hackers in such a way as to destroy all 3 hard-drives on the machine
simultaneously. This resulted in the loss of over 8 gigabytes of data
from this machine including the copy of the website which I had over
there.

Fortunately, this isn't fatal as I have the files here on my local
machine. I will be rehosting them on another site shortly, but wanted
people to know why they couldn't get to my website right now if they
tried.

Errr, Towsner,

Why did you create a rule 4-0-0-2, when (according to lambda's site)
there was no 4-0-0-1. is this one that lambda has failed to update or
something?

BTW	i have copied lamda's site and am currently updating the rules, thats
when i discovered this little discrepancy. The new address (for the
moment, it'll change slightly when the frames are done) is

	http://www.sounds.u-net.com/macron/macron.htm

It's basically the same as Lambda's. I'm working on frames and buttons for
all the sections. The updated rules should be up in a couple of days, give
me a week or so for the frames. The players page will be based on JTs so i
hope it's up to date.

I presume that all the props passed...?

Dan

I believe that lambda had not yet gotten the rules update from the batch
of props before Towsner took over integrated into the rules yet. (IE, not
the two that Townser redistributed, but the batch prior to that)

I believe my page is up-to-date :) (well, up-to-date prior to this batch
of props passing or failing)

has the voting period finished? it's just i've noticed a noticable (:))
absence of votes from a large proportion of the general populace, ie.
everyone aside from me, JT and Towsner. Have i missed a prop which changed
the voting period? Also if u r rite JT where can i get hold of the props
that passed that i missed?

ARE YOU ALL STILL OUT THERE????? have you just been voting privately
because you are ashamed to show your faces when such disapproval is upon you?

I just made that up, please ignore the previous sentence i'm tired and
bored and have too much to say.

Dan

ps. i havent presumed that the 'verbing' rule passed (/passes ?) i don't
think it did (/will ?).

I believe the period has ended. However, you should probably wait on
Towsner to release the votes. As to where to get the props, check
lambda's web site (they were there last I checked with results reported
correctly) (world.std.com/~lambda/macronomic/)

Nope. Where is everyone else? Brian!! I'm not going to post the

will harass about it for weeks if you don't vote.

Err, yeah, err, LOYAL, um, on everything.

You know, this is really getting silly. I don't think I've had time to
actually properly read the props for ages now. I'm completely out of touch
with where the rules are. I'm only assuming that I can still vote LOYAL on
everything. I think I'd better leave the game. But before I do that, I give
everything to..... Dan! Sorry for not taking a more active part lately,
maybe next time. JT, I can't remember how to remove myself from the mailing
list. Can you do it from that end? Or just send me instructions of how to
do it.

Oh, before I go. I've just realised that I've got a complete history of all
the mails to the macronomic mailing list dating back to when I joined
(which was end of April this year). If anybody particularly wants them,
yell now before I nuke 'em.

They are also available from listar (the mailing list managment program)
so if you need to, just ask me and I'll help you get them :)

Does the SotCC still get commodities for players leaving the game?
(I know farmland goes back to the state, I just need to know about
commodities and my connection to world.std.com so I could look up the
rules/old-props is being really slow right now)

Never mind.. I found the answer to this.. this was one of the props that
were distributed on the week of Aug 19 and which hadn't been reflected
into the rules yet either. (Dan take note :)
Prop commodities and vouchers are in fact destroyed as they should be.
(I'd thought we'd removed that, but..... :)

I have updated the assets file for The Kid leaving.
In doing so, I discovered a few other errors as well.

Dan, the assets file as it is now is up to date (except for the props
that need to be accepted/rejected still, it includes the RP vouchers for
this week)

I vote FOR every proposal besides 204, which I vote AGAINST. It says:

>204: Henry
>Date: Oct 15
>	In rule 3-2-2 replace "A trial may not be called if there are fewer
>than five non-vacationing, graduated players."

It never says what to replace it with, though, so the SoT can put in
whatever he wants. (Or, if this was the part it was supposed to replace
with, and it never specifies what part to replace, the SoT could
essentially delete anypart of that rule that he wants.)

Letter of Marque and Reprisal may not change a relation such that it would

two liaisons have voted the same way, the Letter will become inactive

Internal motions may
only be made is specifically allowed for the relevant type of Assembly.

with the initial text for a proposal; that player becomes the Moderator for
the Assembly. The initial text becomes the text of the Assembly, and is
altered by Primary motions to amend, which may be made to Drafting
Assemblies. Any player may join or leave a Drafting Assembly by publicly
