An often silly and sometimes interesting nomic that was active from 1996 to 1998 (although rumors of an underground Patch persist). Participated in InterNomic.
Experiments conducted in the Pumpkin Patch included:
- An economy that incorporated not only currency but also means of production (letter farms and word machines) and chartered corporations. The economy was repealed when a minority of players achieved a permanent concentration of wealth.
- A comic book, on actual paper (!), sold within aforementioned economy.
- Game reality controlled by a nonplayer.
- Combat between animals. Whole alphabets were harmed.
- The usual multiple simultaneous game states, yes, but also multiple Pumpkins.
- An interactive map that allowed players to record their movements through the Patch.
- An (unsuccessful) attempt to create a system for transfering rule-governed objects between nomics.
- The cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
