Nomic was originally conceived as an exercise in the philosophy of law, particularly dealing with bodies of law which are self-referential and self-modifying. However this is not the only philosophical issue arising out of the game. Long-term nomic players have to tackle all manner of philosophical questions: What makes a law "legitimate"? How can laws be enforced? How should a body of laws be interpreted? What is the role of legal precedents? Can a body of law contain "legal fictions"? How should they be interpreted?
