I have decided to set a bit of a firmer moderation policy on the NomicWiki. While I enjoy having it as an open collaborative effort, I also think there is a need for a bit of editorial control to keep things coherent.

My aim is for the NomicWiki to be a compendium of information about Nomic: what is it, where it is played, who plays it, its history and philosophy, and resources for those who wish to start playing.

Things I don't want it to be are:

  1. a replacement for the NomicBulletinBoard
  2. the home for any particular Nomic

There are a number of Wiki's on the Web which started out as information repositories but which have degenerated into a free-form discussion list on all manner of issues unrelated to the original intent. I do not want this to happen to the NomicWiki, and I will actively moderate its content to see that it doesn't.

Sometimes this will mean amending or deleting things added by other people. I do so reluctantly. I really do value your contributions and want to encourage them, but I also want to keep the purpose of the Wiki clear.

I do not want to be seen as a censor. I will try to maintain an adequate representation of all views contributed as I edit the Wiki, but some things may be deleted if I judge them to be inappropriate to the goals of the Wiki. Wherever possible I will try to simply rearrange your contributions into a more coherent whole.

I will also edit your contributions from time to time to maintain a consistent style and layout for the pages. I imagine this will be largely uncontroversial. See GoodStyle? for details.

Let me repeat that I value your contributions and have been excited by the number of hands involved in making the NomicWiki work. I hope my attempts at moderation can be a positive thing, bringing together all our work and making it into a useful resource for existing Nomickers and newbies alike.

I welcome your feedback on this policy. Please email me directly, or discuss it on the NomicBulletinBoard.
