Imperial Nomic is a Nomic variant in which players propose rule changes and The Imperious Emperor says whether they are accepted or not.

Imperial Nomic was invented by DenisHowe at Imperial College, London UK, some time before 1994-08-01, after reading Hoffstedter's description of Nomic in Scientific American. Originally known as "Fascist", DuncanRicher? came up with the brilliant new name, capturing both the role of the Emperor and the game's birthplace.

There are few initial rules. The centralised control and the fact that players can join and leave at any time, make this game more suitable for play-by-network. In the first games, players e-mailed proposals to The Humble Scribe, who added them to a web page along with the Emperors descision and the scores. DenisHowe was both The Imperious Emperor and The Humble Scribe in the first game.
