Micronations (What should count as a Nomic variant?)

I think you all will find the Micronations page at [www.execpc.com] interesting, even if unrelated to Nomic.

I don't think any of you would consider these systems to be Nomic variants, even though they are simulations of legal systems and many of these are --uh-- recreational. So what counts as a Nomic variant? In my opinion, a Nomic variant is a game in which attempts to alter the ruleset are a major part of the play. Thus I would exclude "real" legal systems (of course, since they're not games), games like Bartok and Mao (rule changes being a minor part of the play), and many (probably all) of these micronations. Note that I don't require the variant to be based, even loosely, upon Suber's original ruleset.

I would like to hear your opinions on this question. Please.

Sincerely,

Extending the "Charter"

It occurs to me that determining what is and is not a Nomic variant is similar to Hofstadter's problem of determining the essence of "the letter A".

Therefore the change in the board's description. Please feel free to make comments on anything (even remotely) related to Nomic.

Sincerely,
Doug Chatham
