Welcome to WikiNomic. This was an attempt at running a Nomic on a wiki. WikiNomic began on the
NomicWiki in January 2001, but by the end of the month moved to its own wiki to prevent the NomicWiki from being overwhelmed. Activity in WikiNomic dropped off in September 2001, but it came alive again briefly in 2002. Sometime thereafter, the WikiNomic wiki was assaulted by spammers; at that time, the wiki was configured to keep only a limited number of revisions of each page, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of much of the history of the game. The pages which were salvageable are collected here.
Points of Interest:
WikiNomic, a previous version of the front page- RulesOfWikit, the rules for a strange football-like game played within WikiNomic
- WikitPitch, the place where Wikit is played
- The MysteriousCheerleaders, whom encourage the players of Wikit with their otherworldly chants

Some commentary on the game:
>First, did the intial ruleset contain any behavioral rules >concerning authoring or editing the pages? It didn't - any changes were allowed, so long as they didn't unequally restrict other players' abilities to alter the ruleset. Unexpectedly, people seemed quite happy with this; instead of making proposals and voting, you just made a change and waited to see if anyone disagreed and changed it back (or amended it into some middle ground). >Second, why did it die? I can't really remember - probably a fair amount of the traditional absence and apathy, though, I think. There were some drawbacks in the absence of proposals (changes which affected many rules would be awkward to undo easily, so people tended to shy away from big new ideas or sweeping fixes), but the system itself didn't have any inherent problems.
