Amend rule 218 ("The Prescribed Voting Period") by replacing the the first upper-case t with the following quoted string; "Unless otherwise specified, t"; and remove the last sentence of that rule.

[ I'm almost glad P604 failed: looking at Rule 1135 again, there's
a few things I think need clarifying, hence this rewrite. Although
functionally nothing is substantially different, I prefer this
wording, and there's a couple of slightly dodgy things seen to. ]

Perform the following numbered alterations sequentially:

1. Repeal rule 1135 (The RFN Jukebox.)

2. Enact the following rule, numbered 1135, titled 'The RFN Jukebox'.

***
The RFN Jukebox is an unownable entity. It contains a number of records, which are each entities owned by the Jukebox. Each record has a label, upon which is printed the name of the song, the album the song is taken from and the artist who performs the song.

A player may add a record to the Jukebox by paying 25 donuts. When he does so, he must state the song name, the artist, and the album to be printed on the label. Armed with this information, the Jukebox will manufacture for itself a new record; all this will only occur if it can find the song name, album and artist specified at either or both of the websites http://www.cdnow.com/ and http://www.cddb.com/ -- otherwise, it refunds the 25 donuts paid and beeps obnoxiously.

A player may play any record on the Jukebox by paying 10 donuts. When he does so, he must state unambiguously the record he is playing. The specified record begins playing continuously for three days. The Jukebox may play any number of records concurrently, although too many is discouraged as it causes a horrendous din on the mailing list.

While a record is playing, any player may publically post a line from that song, of at least seven words length. When the record stops playing, any players who submitted the same line, or lines which overlap by three or more words, gain 10 biscuits. Non-vegetable players who did not submit a line gain 5 biscuits. All other players gain 10 Wise Moon Apples.
***

3. If the Jukebox contains any records, songs, or other entities, destroy them.

4. Add the following songs, in title - album - artist triples, to the RFN Jukebox. [ It occurs to me that some of the album choices are probably rather bad ones. If anyone wants to fix bad choices, proosal is probably the easiest way. ]

Create a new rule, numbered 1625, entitled "Shock Value" with the following body:

At the beginning of every calendar week each of the following steps is performed precisely once, in the order the appear, by either an infinitely large set of highly trained chimpanzees or the Speaker:

1) A rule numbered less than 10000 is randomly selected. This rule is called "The Rule Which Was Randomly Selected". If The Rule Which Was Randomly Selected is ever simultaneously the Socket, a randomly selected living player dies for no reason at all.

2) A paragraph is randomly selected within The Rule Which Was Randomly Selected.

3) A sentence is randomly selected within that paragraph.

4) The speaker randomly selects a word within that sentence. This word is called the Magic Word. This replaces the previous Magic Word.

If the Magic Word is used in game communications, then the player who used it automagically loses five Donuts to the Donut Warehouse for each use of the Magic Word. The Donut Warehouse keeps these Donuts separate from its other Donuts. If a proosal ever passes which creates a rule with the current Magic Word its text, these Donuts are transferred to the person who submitted it.

Rule 1900

'Dro'Hannann'

All currently registered players are divided into two teams. These teams should be as equal in number of players as possible. Any new players are assigned to the team with less players, or, if this is not possible, have a team randomly assigned to them.
Team one is purple, team two is green. Each team wishes to destroy the other team. Should one team be successful in killing all members of the other team, they receive 25 WMAs each, and have the sum of 20000 donuts divided up equally between all the team members. The members of the losing team gain 5 biscuits each, and divide 5000 donuts equally among all the team members. Killing a member of an opposing team is not considered murder, and consequently the action is not considered to have breached law 5 of RFN. This rule takes precedence over all other rules regarding punishment.

All players currently dead are now alive. This rule is removed once this action is performed.

Create a new rule, numbered XXX, entitled "Feminism" with the following text:

The rules of RFN follow the guidelines of standard written English in that masculine pronouns are used where gender is unknown. This is not because females are less competent, or less intelligent, or less able. It is simply because men rule The Universe.

Upon entering the game, a player may declare herself female if and only if she is female in real life. Upon doing so, the Speaker must call a Hearing to Verify Gender. During a Hearing to Verify Gender, each player may ask the prospective girl one question which the prospective female may or may not answer. After a period of five days, the Speaker shall distribute a list of all the questions submitted and their respective answers, after which the Hearing shall last another three days. Valid responses to this Hearing are "It's a girl!", and "I smell testosterone.".

If the verdict of the Hearing to Verify Gender is "It's a girl!" the player is indeed female and gains either the title "Ms.", "Miss", "Mrs.", "Madam", "Mademoiselle", or "The Beautiful" depending on her choice. If the verdict is "I smell testosterone." the player is also female but gains no title.

Enact as rule 1660 with the title "Crowther and Woods", the following text:

There exists a BBC micro running a classy text adventure game. A player may type any command onto the Micro at any time by publically announcing they are doing so on the mailing list, provided they have not done so in the previous 96 hours, and provided some response text has been provided for the most recent command.

The first non-vegetable player with a name alphabetically prior to the player who typed the most recent command is obliged to print the game's response to this command. If they fail to do so within 48 hours, they gain 4 biscuits, and the obligation passes to the next-most alphabetically prior player.

For the purposes of the previous paragraph, the alphabet is considered to be circular; the letter prior to 'A' is 'Z'.

Players are encouraged to post commands and responses 'in spirit'; simple commands such as "LOOK" or "LASSOO PEDESTAL" or "JUMP OVER GREAT BIG PIT" are OK; commands like "EXAMINE THE TEAPOT, LOOK, THEN JUMP OVER THE PIT WHILE LASSOOING THE PEDESTAL ON THE OTHER SIDE" are not OK, and would probably be greeted with a response like "I don't understand."

A non-vegetable player is randomly chosen. This player is possessed by the great god Crom, and immediately types 'LOOK' on the BBC Micro. Crom, his work being finished, vanishes.

Amend rule 307 by replacing the entire text with the following text:

***
In the week after the initial judgement has been returned on a CFJ, any player may appeal that CFJ. It is then considered under appeal unless another CFJ is under appeal in which case it is considered pending. When a CFJ under appeal receives a final judgement, the oldest pending CFJ (dated from the time it was appealed) is considered under appeal. No CFJ may be appealed more than once.

Each time a CFJ comes under appeal, three players are randomly chosen to consider it. These three players are known collectively as the Judiciary until such time as they deliver a final judgement. Only non-Vegetable players, excluding the initiator of the CFJ, its judge and appellant, are eligible to be chosen as members of the Judiciary.

Each member may then return one judgement on that CFJ, including reasoning if desired. If the majority of these judgements correspond, that judgement becomes the final judgement. If they do not, or if it has been three weeks since a change in the membership of the Judiciary, the final judgement is undecided.

When a final judgement has been reached, the original judgement is considered overruled and the final judgement becomes the new judgement.

If at any time one or more of these members becomes a vegetable, a non-player or voluntarily resigns their membership, they lose their membership of the Judiciary and the speaker shall randomly assign a corresponding number of eligible players to become members.

If at any time there are less than three players eligible to form the Judiciary then the speaker need not assign players to consider CFJs under appeal until this situation changes.
