-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Year Two, Week One -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 338 - Mundane Stacking Job [Other, Multiple] Rename Rule 1.14.1 (Tokens All Over The Place) to "Stacks of Fun", and reword it to read:- In a Game of Mornington Crescent, Tokens may be Stacked in a pile at certain Stations, either for future collection or to achieve some other defined effect. A Game's Token Stacks should be listed in a section of the Game State Document, Tokens themselves ascending left-to-right, with the following example format:- +--------------------+--------------+ +--------------------+--------------+ | Dollis Hill | BrSiGo | | Euston | ReSi | | Finchley & Frognal | GoSiBrReBuBu | | Morden | BlBlBl | +--------------------+--------------+ +--------------------+--------------+ (i.e. For Dollis Hill, the top Token in the Stack is a Gold.) Stacks of Tokens may be Shunted as though they were Players. This is performed in the usual way; the Name of the Stack being 'Token Stack'. It is illegal to shunt Token Stacks to Stations which already have Token Stacks on them. And enact a new Rule "Token Dropping"; Any Player may perform the post-Move Action of "[ Token on ]" to place a Token onto a Token Stack, where "" is a colour of Token which the Player possesses, and "" is a Station which the Actioning Player passed through during eir Move. When a Token is placed upon a Token Stack, it is removed from Token Table in the Game State Document, and added to the top of the specified Stack. A Player may not place a Token on a Stack if it already has six Tokens in it, or if it would be the first Token of a Stack and there are already twelve Token Stacks in play. If this means that there are no valid locations for a Token to be dropped, that Token is destroyed, as are the bottom Tokens of all Token stacks. And enact a new Rule "Token Claiming"; Any Player may perform the post-Move Action of "[Claiming a Token from ]" to claim the top Token from a Token Stack, where "" is the colour of the Token which the Player is claiming, and "" is a Station which the Actioning Player passed through during eir Move (a Station that has a Token Stack with a Token on its top). This Action may be performed more than once during a Turn, but not for the same Station. When a Token is claimed from a Token Stack, the top Token is removed from the Token Stack, and added to the appropriate row and column of the GSD's Token Table. { Comments: Just clarifying a rather tortuously-worded bit of the Ruleset. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 339 - Playing with Food [Other, Multiple] 1. Playing With Food [Enactment] Any Player may purchase the following items of food, at the following costs, by playing the ten-minute neutral Action of "[Purchasing ]" at any Overground Station, where is an item of food from the list below. Upon playing that Action, that Player gains a single instance of the quoted item of food. Note that Railcard discounts do not apply to food purchases. +-----------------------+-----------------+ | Chocolate Bar | 1 Bronze Token | | Marmalade Sandwich | 2 Bronze Tokens | | British Rail Coffee | 3 Bronze Tokens | | Lukewarm Burger | 4 Bronze Tokens | | Overpriced Baguette | 5 Bronze Tokens | +-----------------------+-----------------+ Items of food have the following special effects:- Chocolate Bar Chocolate Bars count as Small, Edible Possessions. Marmalade Sandwich So long as a Player holds a Marmalade Sandwich, Paddington is considered to be a Wild Station during eir Turn. If a Player ends eir Turn at Paddington, all Marmalade Sandwiches carried by that Player are destroyed. Marmalade Sandwiches count as Edible Possessions. British Rail Coffee If a Player carrying a cup of British Rail Coffee is Shunted, all Coffee carried by that Player is destroyed, along with all Papery Possessions carried by the Shunting Player. British Rail Coffees count as Possessions. Lukewarm Burger Lukewarm Burgers count as Edible Possessions. Overpriced Baguette Overpriced Baguettes count as Edible Possessions. 2. Paperwork [Amendment] Add the word "Papery" before the word "Possessions" in the Rules for Ticket Stubs, Railcards and Zone Passes, where such rules exist. { Comments: Stupidly frivolous, but such was all that sprang to mind, and it'll be interesting to see if this is a direction we'd feel like taking it or not. I'm not sure it's that good an angle, myself, being rather more "real life" than "proper MC"; this is probably a bit more interesting than abstract gibberish, though, I think. But still. Vote. That's what Nomics are for. I admit that three useless items is a bit rubbish; amendment will be made as soon as I think of anything. I've tried to write it without bringing in too many frivolous Actions, as it stands. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 340 - Shut Up, Buzz Off, I Don't Care [Amendment] In Rule 0.9.1 (Kudos), remove the following bonuses and penalties:- Making a Proposal | +1 Playing an Illegal turn and being Buzzed for it | -2 Buzzing a Player for a Turn shown to be Illegal | +1 Posting a non-GSD message to the mailing list, using | -10 a subject line that contains the string "Game State | Document" | { Speaker's Comments: Keeping track of the Buzzing is a bit of a pain in the arse, with so much gentlemanly "Well, I won't Buzz you, but that was a tiny bit illegal, good sir" sportsmanship, and everything. The Proposal bonus is fairly small beer and easier not to bother with, and the non-GSD thing isn't too serious anyway - I think we're all thoughtful enough not to make the mistake deliberately, and hefty penalties for ill mailers seems dreadfully unfair. I raise a Point of Order to prevent Yer_Mom losing ten or twenty or whatever it was, to that, by the way, and action it. Throw rocks if you object. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 341 - A little bit of local colour [Enactment] A few stations have special properties. Some of these (The Dollis Hill loop for instance) are documented elsewhere. Others are given below: Holding Stations: ================= Mornington Crescent, Seven Sisters and Euston are Holding Stations, that is there is no limit on the number of tokens that can be in a token stack placed on any of those three stations. Pevsner Shunt: ============== Any player shunted to Neasdon loses one token (of their choice). This token is placed on Dollis Hill provided that such a placement is legal, or destroyed otherwise. Ongar Denial: ============= If the following are true: 1) The previous player's move was Dollis Hill. 2) Disregarding the provisions of rule 1.8.1 a move to Ongar would be legal by any means other than the [Wild] or [Ghost] actions. then, taking precedence over rule 1.8.1, the move Ongar may be played, which ends the Dollis Hill loop. This puts the game into Strick, which lasts until the moving player's next turn. While the game is in Strick it may not be put into Knip, nor may a player be put into Spoon. { Comments: 1) Ideas from Encyclopedia Morningtania. 2) Ongar doesn't exist as a station yet, so the third section has no effect. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 342 - Rule 783f [Enactment] North is always North. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 343 - Out, Out, Ambiguity [Amendment] Change the first paragraph of Rule 1.1.1 to read - "The Winner of a Game is the first Player whose Piece rests at Mornington Crescent at the end of eir Turn." { Comment: Kevan's suggested wording from eir Judgment on EP 12 does seem less ambiguous than the text in EP 12 itself. I've modified Kevan's suggestion slightly to fit on with the existing sentence structure, and to specify the end of the Player's Turn as being the cutoff. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 344 - Pay The Piper At The Door [Amendment] Amend Rule 1.4.1 (Token Gesture) by changing the "Applied When" text for the Playing MC row of the token table to read "Point of Interaction". { Comment: A less contentious bit of wording, there. Move Segment was never defined, for a start. Also, this terminology is more in tune with things like interacting with someone's home station. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 345 - Toe the Line [Amendment] Add the following text after paragraph 5 (the one beginning " is the name of the Player..."): "This form must also be used when specifying a target Station for an Action which changes a Player's position, for instance when playing Home or Shunting." { Comment: Just plugging a gap, really, so that people have to say which Line they're Wilding, Straddling or Striling to. When Shunting a Player there is no actual need to specify the line at the moment, since a line change isn't permitted by the Shunting rules, but that's not to stop it happening again later. Note: I deliberately didn't apply this requirement to *all* Actions, since that would include things like Blocking and would considerably narrow the scope of that form of defense. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 346 - Another Dollis Escape Route [Other, Multiple] 1. 'Lowering gravitational pull about Dollis Hill' [Amendment] Add a third asterisked point to the list in rule 1.8.1 (Dollis Hill Loop) reading: * Perform a [Dollis Escape] action, requiring a LV of 10. The actioning player may then move eir piece as normal that turn. 2. Terminal Velocity [Amendment] Add the following details to the table in 1.7.2 (Pre-Move Actions): [Dollis Escape] 1.8.1 {Comments: This seems a fairly logical DH escape route, unless anyone wants to implement a gravitational effect?... no, thought not. I think it's nice that if players enter a DH loop with a high LV, they should be able to break it quickly if they wish. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 347 - F'neeeeeeep!! Yibble!! Reeeeeedundant!! Nice!! [Amendment] Remove the occurance of the word 'Enactment' from the first sentence of the second paragraph of rule 0.4.4 (Proposal Distribution). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
