-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Year One, Week Forty -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 275 - What a Banker [Enactment] On eir Turn, Players may perform the post-Move action "Banking ", where is replaced with any number of Tokens in any combination of colours that the Player currently possesses. These Tokens, called Banked Tokens, must be removed from the Token Table in the Game State Document, and are placed in a safe at Bank. The Player may not use Banked Tokens until they have been retrieved in the manner described below, nor may other Players get eir grubby mitts on the Banked Tokens by any means, e.g. shunting. Any attempt by a Player to Bank tokens that e does not currently possess shall be considered an Illegal Turn. To retrieve Banked Tokens, the Player must proceed to Bank and perform the action "Collecting ", where is replaced with details of those Tokens e wishes to retrieve. Any attempt by a Player to retrieve Tokens that e has not Banked shall be considered an Illegal Turn. For every five Tokens of a single colour that remain Banked for three consecutive Turns, the Player earns 1 Token of the same colour as Interest, which is added to eir Token Count in the Game State Document. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 276 - Finders Keepers [Amendment] Amend Rule 1.4.1 to include (at the end of the paragraph starting "A Player may, at the end of eir Move...") the words: "The exception to this is that the Drone may not give tokens directly to the Drone Keeper." {Comment: the current situation seems a bit of a dodgy scam, making it possible to give tokens to yourself, though I think it would be fair if, say, the Drone performed the dropping token action and the Drone Keeper then picked the Token up.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 277 - Witty Proposal Name Goes Here [Amendment] Remove the exception to Edgware, Mill Hill East and High Barnet from Rule 1.4.4 (Token Running). {Comments: now that you need three Golds to win, *plus* all the other conditions, it seems superfluous to impose this restriction. Besides, there are other Terminuses that are closer to MC than those mentioned.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 278 - Afterthought for the Day [Repeal] Repeal Rule 0.2.2 (Achieving Mutability). { Comments: Overlooked amid all the Transmutation imbroglio, that one. Tsk. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 279 - Termini Are People Too [Amendment] Change Rule 1.4.4 (Token Running) to remove the exceptions. { Comment: I imagine these exceptions were included initially to prevent termini close to MC being used to gather the Gold, but (as has been observed) Aldgate is closer but has no restriction. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 280 - York, Schmork [Amendment] Amend Rule 0.9.1 (Kudos) to remove the Kudos reward for posting the string 'Mornington Nomic' to the York Server Chat Game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 281 - Do You Mind Sitting Together? [Amendment] 1. They're A Very Nice Couple. Really. (Amendment) Amend Rule 0.9.1 (Kudos) to include the Kudos penalty described in Rule 0.9.2 ("So Have You Finished Your Turn Yet?"). 2. Alphonse! This One's Clear Now! (Repeal) Repeal Rule 0.9.2 ("So Have You Finished Your Turn Yet?"). 3. I Just Think You're Taking Up Too Much Space (Amendment) Amend Rule 1.4.1 (Token Gesture) to include the Token bonus described in Rule 1.4.4 (Token Running). 4. Alphonse! And This One... (Repeal) Repeal Rule 1.4.4 (Token Running) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 282 - Yellow Card [Amendment] Amend Rule 1.16.1:- Replace "If a Player Concedes, the Dubious Turn is automatically declared as Illegal." with:- "If a Player Concedes, e may take back eir Dubious Turn and replace it with a new one, unless eir Buzzed Turn was itself a replaced Buzzed Turn, in which case eir Move is automatically declared Illegal." { Comments: Saying "Yes, alright, it's illegal" takes just as much time and effort as saying "Oh, no, I meant the Circle Line", and I'm sure we've all been annoyed by having careless mistakes costing us a particularly cunning plan for victory. Harsh penalties in tournament-level games are fair enough, but knockabout friendlies such as these should be more informal, I feel. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 283 - Anti-William Bonanza [Other, Multiple] { Comments: Just a bit of ruleset trimming, trying to cut the thing back to its bones by slicing away anything that's never been used, isn't very useful and is unlikely ever to be referenced. } 1. Game Over [Repeal] Repeal Rule 1.1.4 (Player Mode). { Comments: A little obsolete now that multiple-gaming has weakened the Nomic/Crescent link. } 2. Back to Peru [Repeal] Repeal 1.10.2 (Paddington Bare). { Comments: Targetted shunting is a tricky business; twice in one game even trickier. } 3. Closing Credits [Repeal/Amendment] Repeal 1.4.4 (Independent British Cinema Payola) and remove the "[Film: ...]" Post-Move Action from Rule 1.7.3 (Post-Move Actions). { Comments: You might as well just Token Run from a Terminus. The idea of having to know "independently-made" British films to perform the maneouvre is something I'm a little uncomfortable with, also. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 284 - "Token Rings, and other shapes..." [Enactment] For the purposes of this rule tokens will be deemed to have the following values: non-Metallic : 1 Bronze : 2 Silver : 4 Gold : 6 A player may, at any time at which they would be placing a token upon any stack or station, place that token on a station as a "Token Ring". This requires an action [ Token Ring on direction ] (The direction is defined below) This has an additional cost of one token of value at least as great as that being placed as a "Token Ring". The token used to pay this cost may not be a non-Metallic token. E.g. Rushton: Euston [Blocking King's Cross] [Red Token Ring on East Putney direction Edgware Road] This would cost one Red (for the block, and making the Token Ring) and one Bronze, Silver or Gold. The Token Ring token counts as a token stack of exactly one token, even if it is at a station with another token stack on it. The player must specify a terminus on any one of the lines upon which the station that the Token Ring is being placed on rests, or in the case of the Circle line either the direction "clockwise" or the direction "anti-clockwise". The player must also specify on which line this terminus is, and a route, if without changing lines, there is more than one route to the terminus. E.g. Rushton: Euston [Blocking King's Cross] [Red Token Ring on Oval direction Mill Hill East, route Borough] The Token Ring is then considered a player, moving after the player who placed it, and moved my that player. It always moves directly towards the specified terminus (its destination) without changing lines and has an LV equal to its value. So in the examples above the Token Ring would have an LV of 1. A Token Ring ignores any restrictions caused by Game time and it's move doesn't affect Game Time in any way. If the Token Ring is at a distance from its destination less than its LV then its LV is reduced to the distance from it to its destination station. If a Token Ring is shunted then its LV remains at the value specified above. If it is shunted onto a line other than that containing its destination, or if it is shunted onto branch of the same line from which it is not possible - without changing lines or direction - to move to the destination then the player who initially placed the Token Ring picks a new destination as if e had just placed the Token Ring on the station to which it has been shunted. E.g. in the second example above, the Token Ring is at Bank(NT) and it is shunted to Leyton(CN). Valid destinations are then Woodford, Epping, Ealing Broadway and West Ruislip. When the Token Ring reaches its destination it stops and is added to the top of the Token stack on that station if such exists, or forms a Token stack on that station otherwise. If a Token Ring Rebounds off a blocked station then the player who originally placed it picks a new destination on the same line in the direction in which it was moving after it had been rebounded, but otherwise as if e had just placed it upon the station to which it was rebounded. E.g. in the second example above there is a block at London Bridge. After the Token Ring has rebounded its only available destination is Morden. Define X crosses Y (when X is a move and Y is a segment of a line) to be that one of the following are true: 1) A move segment of X physically crosses the line segment Y on the map. 2) The move X contains an interchange station on line Y. If a player makes a move which crosses the line segment between the Token Ring and its destination then he must forfeit a token at least equal in value to the one which was placed to form the Token Ring. E.g. in the second example above, the token is at Borough. Rushton is at Southwark(JL) and is moving to Bermondsey. He must pay a token of at least the value of a Red token. (i.e. in this case any token). The line segment between any Circle Line station and the Token Ring's destination is defined to be the entire Circle Line if the Token Ring is moving on the Circle Line. If a player is on the same station as a Token Ring at any time then they may pick it up.
