-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Twenty-Seven -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 166 - Cut the umbillical cord [Amendment] Remove the text: Posting a message to the York Server Chat Game | containing the string "Mornington Nomic", if this | string does not appear in the previous forty moves | +3 from Rule 1005 - Kudos -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 167 - Boasting Wall [Enactment] There exists an official document known as the "Boasting Wall." The Boasting Wall is intended to be a permanent monument to good play. At the end of a game of Mornington Nomic, every player who was active in the last week of play, may post a message to the boasting wall. This message may not be longer than x characters, where x is that player's Kudos. {Comment: It would be nice to give a sense of "history" to the game. It would also be nice to reward players for being active and making good plays.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 168 - Game, Set, Match [Enactment] There exists a line segment which goes from Wimbledon to Morden for those players who have at least one (1) Gold Token AND have Line Velocity greater than four (>4) {Comment: At present the only cases for a "Southern Win" scenario is that a player would traverse South down the Northern line and then turn around OR take the Victoria line and change a Stockwell. This proposal would allow for a few more avenues of attack which are more exciting (because they involve high velocities and crossing the Thames.)} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 169 - Tokenism [Amendment] Rule 1007 (Token Gesture) shall be amended as follows: Replace the fourth paragraph (beginning "Each Player's Token totals ...") with the following text - "Each Player's Token totals shall be maintained by the Player concerned upon their Move. Failure to record a Token cost or penalty shall be deemed an Illegal Move. Failure to record a Token benefit or bonus shall not be considered Illegal, however those Tokens which would have been accrued are lost." { Comment: The rules in the current version of this paragraph seem a bit weak in not specifying what is actually Illegal. Also, no one's following the Rules as they stand in any case. } Add the following line to the Token table: "Moving onto or through another | -1 Silver or Player's Home Station | -1 Gold" { Comment: A Token cost not recorded here previously. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 170 - A Longer Spoon [Other, Multiple] [Amendment: The Right Spoon for the Job] Rule 1050 (Open the Cutlery Drawer, Mrs Higgins) shall have the following text appended to it: Quadrants and Lines may also be placed in Spoon, with the effect that no further aggressive Actions may be played on the affected Quadrant or Line for the duration of the Spoon. Existing effects of aggressive Actions remain in force as normal. Spooning a Quadrant shall be specified as an Action of the following form whilst within the Quadrant to be Spooned: [Spooning Quadrant] Only one Quadrant may be in Spoon at any given time. Attempting to Spoon another Quadrant is deemed an Illegal Move. Spooning a Line shall be specified as an Action of the following form whilst on the Line to be Spooned: [Spooning Line] The Spoon shall last for a number of Turns, the precise number being determined by how many Tokens have been paid, as defined in Rule 1007. { Comment: A logical extension of Spooning a Player, I feel. } [Amendment: What's the Damage, Then?] Rule 1007 (Token Gesture) shall be amended as follows: Add the following to the Token Table - "Spooning a Line for Turns | 2 * Gold Tokens Spooning a Quadrant for Turns | 3 * Gold Tokens" { Comment: I've done it this way because it's difficult to see how a Quadrant or Line can Unspoon itself. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 171 - Could I Have the Needle-Nosed Tweezers? [Other, Multiple] {Comment: it's another typo Proposal...} [Amendment: You Can't Park There!] Rule 1023 (Parks and Greens Proposal) shall be renamed as "Parks and Greens Cascade". {Comment: Well, it's not a Proposal any more, is it?} [Amendment: Definitely Missing] Rule 1031 (Primrose Hill Geographical Society) shall be amended by inserting the word "the" between "on" and "Northern". [Amendment: What's Herne Got to Do With It?] Rule 1031 (Gordon Brown's Fair Fare) shall be amended by replacing occurrences of the word "Nothern" with the (correctly spelt) word "Northern". [Amendment: Unquote] Rule 1038 (Hills and Highs) shall be amended by replacing the final sentence with the following: Any Station that contains both the strong "Hill" and the string "High" in iits name is considered a High Hill Station. {Comment: 'contains' was spelt wrongly, and there was a missing quote mark.} [Amendment: Other Interesting Spelling...] Rule 1049 (The Slippery Slope) shall be amended by replacing the word "Dtation" in the second paragraph with the word "Station". [End of Proposal] { Comment: Sorry that was a bit dull, but these things need doing now and again. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 172 - Home from Home Again [Amendment] Replace paragraph 2 of Rule 1006 (Home Stations) with:- "A Player cannot have an Interchange Station as eir Home Station. A Player cannot have as eir Home Station a Station which is within six Stations' distance of Mornington Crescent." { Comments: This was proposed back in Week 23, and Kevan wouldn't now be one Move away from Winning if it had passed. Heigh ho. Without this, I suspect everyone's just going to grab Home Stations near to MC at the start of the next game, and it's going to be a very, very dull "fetch a Gold Token and Home straight back" affair, with the victor being one of the two who managed to claim Camden Town or Euston. Let's not, eh? } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 173 - Token Trading [Amendment] Add the following paragraph to Rule 1007 (Token Gesture):- "A Player may, at the end of eir Move, give any number of eir Tokens to another Player. The amount being given should be detailed in the comments of eir Turn, and the GSD's Token Table updated accordingly." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 174 - Further Tidying Up [Other, Multiple] Append the text of Rule 1021 (Use the Key on the Map) to Rule 1015 (The Underground Map) and Repeal Rule 1021. Append the text of Rule 1013 (End Homelessness in London) to Rule 1006 (Home Stations) and Repeal Rule 1013. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 175 - Questionability [Enactment] Each Rule in the Ruleset numbered beyond 1000 shall be either Questionable or Unquestionable. Questionable Rules shall be indicated with the string "(Questionable x)" after their Mutability status, where 'x' is their Questionability rating. Unquestionable Rules are not indicated as such - their Unquestionability is implicit. When a new Rule is Enacted, or when an existing Rule is Amended, that Rule becomes Questionable, with a Questionability rating of zero. At the end of each Week in which a Questionable Rule was never invoked, its Questionability rating increases by one. When its Questionability rating reaches five, it is automatically Repealed. If ever a Rule is invoked, it becomes Unquestionable. Any Player may submit a Proposal of Type Other and Subclass Question, Proposing that a Rule be made Questionable with a Questionability Rating of zero. Upon Enactment of this Rule, any post-1000 Rules in the Ruleset which have never been invoked shall become Questionable with a Questionability Rating of zero. All other post-1000 Rules shall be Unquestionable. This paragraph shall then remove itself from the Ruleset. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
