-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Twenty-Four -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 149 - Heathrow Loop-the-Loop [Enactment] The loop of the Piccadilly line running through the Heathrow stations may only be travelled in a clockwise direction. { Comment: All this does is make manifest in the ruleset something which is apparent from the map, whichever one is in use! If this Proposal seems familiar, that's because it's a simplification of the wording in Proposal 036 from Week 4 (same title, though). } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 150 - Redrawing the Map [Other, Multiple] {Comment: This Proposal changes the Official Map location and implements the effects within the ruleset of that change. There are other effects (principally the requirement to rework the Quadrant Boundaries and Ticket Stubs) but they are addressed separately. } [Amendment: New Maps for Old] Change the wording of Rule 1015 (The Underground Map) to read as follows: "Mornington Nomic shall refer to the Underground Map at the web page: http://www.cms.dmu.ac.uk/~c94kd/mornomic/map.html" {Comment: the fundamental point, to install Kevan's GIF map as the source of all knowledge. I've removed the 'current year' part also, since I'll confess some uneasiness about it, and it's pretty irrelevant now in any case.} [Repeal: Mister Rotorvator] Repeal Rule 1014 (Helicopter Shuttle). {Comment: As previously proposed, and acting as the trigger for this Proposal. If it's already happened, then so be it. } [Amendment: Matinee Idle] Amend the first sentence of Rule 1024 (Everyman Cinema) to remove reference to Hampstead Heath Station. {Comment: Hampstead Heath is a BR station.} [Amendment: Ticket to Walk] Amend Rule 1028 (Ticket Stubs) by removing from the third paragraph the sentence "Stations that have a Connection with British Rail within walking distance do not count." {Comment: the walking distance information isn't available on the GIF map.} [End of Redrawing the Map] {Comment: A quick word about the net effect of the new map on Quadrant Boundaries and Ticket Stubs: - we lose a total of eight border stations, whilst one moves to be actually on a border - we gain a total of five ticket stub stations, two because of the walking distance rule change, and a further three because of stations which were interchanges with BR lines now are just marked as having a connection. The Speaker will be supplied with updated versions of the relevant files if/when this Proposal is passed. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 151 - Tidier Kudos [Other, Multiple] 1. Tabulation [Amendment] Reformat Rule 1005 (Kudos) so that it reads:- "Every Player has a Kudos score (an integer number, positive or negative), which is kept in an Official Document known as the Kudos Chart. The Kudos Chart is distributed by the Speaker at the end of each Week along with all other relevant Official Documents. When a new Player joins the game of Mornington Nomic, e starts with a Kudos score of zero. At the end of each Week, each Player's Kudos scores is adjusted according to the following table. Event | Kudos Modifier ---------------------------------------------------------+---------------- Each Vote FOR one of eir Proposals | +1 Each Vote AGAINST one of eir Proposals | -1 Each Vote FOR one of eir Proposals, made by emself | -3 | Voting FOR or AGAINST all Proposals besides eir own | +3 | Using the Word of the Week in a Proposal made that | Week (outside of comments) | +2 | Each Rule Repealed as a direct result of eir Proposal | +2 | Failure to follow Rule 1001 | -2 | Playing an Illegal turn and being Buzzed for it | -2 Buzzing a Player for a Turn shown to be Illegal | +1 | Posting a message to the York Server Chat Game | containing the string "Mornington Nomic", if this | string does not appear in the previous forty moves | +3" 2. Busy Scissors [Amendment] Replace "Any Proposals made in that Week which feature this word (outside of comments) will earn their Proposers two Kudos points." in Rule 213 (Word of the Week) with "This shall be known as the Word of the Week, for the duration of that Week." 3. Busy Clippers [Amendment] Replace "The order of play shall pass to the Player who was to Turn after the Player who made the offending Turn. The latter Player shall miss one turn and forfeit two Kudos points. The Player who Buzzed shall gain one Kudos point." in Rule 1017 (Crimes and Misdemeanours) with "The Buzzed Player's illegal Turn shall be replaced with 'Pass'." { Comments: This seems a clearer way of dealing with the Buzzing business, and it's how we've actually been dealing with it in any case. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 152 - Reward the Workers [Amendment] If Proposal 151 passes, add:- "Making a Proposal | +1" to the table in Rule 1005 (Kudos). Otherwise, add:- "For every Proposal a Player makes, e gains one Kudos." to Rule 1005. { Comments: Some sort of further incentive to make Proposals would benefit the Game, I think. It's getting a bit slow, these days. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 153 - Just Another Monday Morning [Amendment] Add the following item to the list in Rule 1047 (A New Game):- "* All Ticket Stubs become ownerless." And replace "All Players' Token counts and Line Velocities are reduced to zero." with "All Players' Token counts, Line Velocities and Kudos scores are reduced to zero." { Comments: A couple of things overlooked, there. } --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
