------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Fifteen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 114 - Token Running [Other, Multiple] [Enactment: Token Running] If a Player starts eir Turn at a Terminus Station (a Station with only one adjacent Station), with the exceptions of Edgware, Mill Hill East and High Barnet, e gains a Gold Token. { Comments: The three Terminus Stations on the Northern Line north of MC are perhaps a little too easy to swoop down from. } [Amendment: Token Claiming] Append "The Shunting Player may claim one Token from the Shunted Player. This Token can be of any colour that the Shunted Player has at least one Token of, and is selected by the Shunting Player." to the final paragraph of Rule 1018 (Shunting Proposal). { Comments: This makes Gold Tokens a precious cargo - if a Player gets one, e must play defensively to avoid it being stolen by an opponent. This should make the game a little more strategic and interesting. } Rename Rule 1018 to "A Shunting We Will Go". { Comments: Thought I'd rename it whilst here - "Shunting Proposal" is a bit of a foolish name for a Rule, and the Ruleset needs more stupid puns, of course. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 115 - Bridges [Enactment] The Game shall have a "Bridges" state, being either "Up" or "Down". This state shall be detailed in the Game State Document. If the Game's Bridges state is "Up", no Player may Move from one side of the Thames to the other during eir turn (although Players may still be Shunted across the Thames whilst Bridges are Up). A Player may, during eir move, expend three Blue Tokens and perform the Action of "Bridges Up" or "Bridges Down", changing the Bridges state accordingly. Upon Enactment of this Rule, Bridges are Down. This paragraph shall remove itself from the Rule upon Enactment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 116 - Fun with Tokens [Amendment] To rule 1020 add: Ending on a different line as eir previous move -1 Black -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 117 - All Stations Agony [Enactment] If a Player is on an All Stations Train eir Line Velocity is restricted to a maximum of 3. A Player boards an All Stations Train if e plays three Stations in succession that are on the same Line. For the purpose of this Rule a Shunt is also considered a Move. Therefore a Player is also deemed on an All Stations Train if e is Shunted along a Line so that e has been in 3 Stations. For example Shunted twice along the same Line, or Shunted once after playing two Stations on the Line. If a Player is on an All Stations Train this should be mentioned in the comments section, but if it is not stated it is still in force. A Player may at any time point out any Player is on an All Stations Train by mentioning it in the comments section of the Game State Document. A Player may leave an All Stations Train only at a Terminus. A Terminus is any Station which has Lines leaving it in only one direction. Once e has played a Terminus, the Player is deemed to be off the All Stations Train, and the restrictions on e's Line Velocity are returned to normal. This should be mentioned in the comments section of the Game State Document, but if it is not it is still in force. {Comments: Gives us an ongoing problem that isn't that lethal to the player, can be put into effect by bad play or aggresive opponents play, and makes a use for Terminals. Apart from that I have nothing to say.} {Speaker's Comment: Unnervingly, I'd written my earlier Token Running Proposal before reading the Terminus definition in this one.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 118 - Token Gesture - The Gathering [Other, Multiple] [Amendment] Amend Rule 1007 by adding Rule 1011 and Rule 1020 to it. This proposal will take effect after all other proposals that may change Rule 1011 and Rule 1020 that have passed are completed, but before the next Week End. Thus Rule 1007 will be as follows (except for any changes to the rules that are being added): Rule 1007 - Token Gesture (Mutable) Each Player has a set of positive integer numbers allocated to them, indicative of the numbers of Tokens of each valid Token colour they hold. Valid Token colours shall be Black, Red, Blue, Silver and Gold. A record of the Tokens possessed by the Players shall be incorporated in the Game State Document (as defined in Rule 1001). This will be in the form of a table, and will tabulate the number of Tokens owned by each Player according to token type. The columns of the table shall be the set of valid types of Token. The rows of the table shall be the set of Players. Both rows and columns are to be ordered alphabetically (and case insensitively). The row/column intersections shall contain the number of Tokens of the column Token type owned by the Player row. A zero total may be entered as blank. Each Player's Token totals shall be maintained by the Player concerned upon their Move. If this maintainance is not performed, the Player will forfeit one Token of each type of which e has a non-zero quantity. A Player may not alter another Player's Token totals unless either permission is gained from the owning Player, or permission is granted by a Rule. Unauthorised changes will result in the Player making the changes forfeiting all eir Tokens. All forfeited Tokens shall be deemed to have been lost in the Thames. The following list details certain actions or events in the game of Mornington Crescent, and the amount and Colour of Tokens that the relevant Player gains or loses from this. The calculation of such costs shall be performed in a sequential manner along the route of the Player's Move, such that a Player must possess the required Tokens at the point at which a cost would be incurred. Action / Event | Token Change ----------------------------------------------------+------------------ | Playing "Mornington Crescent" as eir Move | -1 Gold | Playing an Interchange with exactly two lines | +1 Red | Playing an Interchange with exactly three lines | +1 Black | Playing an Interchange with exactly four lines | +1 Blue | Playing an Interchange with exactly five lines | +1 Silver | Passing through exactly two Interchanges in | a Move | +1 Red | Passing through exactly three Interchanges in | a Move | +1 Black | Passing through exactly four Interchanges in | a Move | +1 Blue | Passing through exactly five Interchanges in | a Move | +1 Silver | Playing a Station adjacent to the previous | +1 Blue Player's Move, as eir Move | | Playing a Station on the opposite side of the | -3 Blue Thames to eir previous Move, as eir Move | | Playing any Station on the Central Line as | +1 Red eir Move | | Blocking a Station | -1 Red | [Repeal] Repeal Rule 1011. [Repeal] Repeal Rule 1020. {Comments: It seems silly to have three rules in three different places dealing with token play, far more sensible to have them all in one rule. Since there is a distinct possibility that the latter rules may change in the same voting period as this proposal, I have specifically stated that these changes take place before this proposal is acted on.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 119 - Blam, Blam, Blam [Other, Multiple] Repeal Rule 1024 (Everyman Cinema). { Comments: As I said at the time, a Rule insisting that Players must lie is a little unsettling, and naming films doesn't fit my mental image of what a game of MC should include, really. } Repeal Rule 1025 (Paddington Bare). { Comments: Silly. And the odds of someone actually being Shunted to Paddington twice in one game must be astronomical. } Repeal Rule 1039 (No Thirds Rule). { Comments: Too specific a case to bother ruling against, I think. } Repeal Rule 1040 (Independent British Cinema Payola). { Comments: Again, rather too specific a case, and rather too easy to forget who's been to Hampstead and done the necessary. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 120 - Cyclotron victory [Other, Multiple] Ammendment - Circle Line Cyclotron Ammend sentence one of rule 1026 to read: "Each Player has a Line Velocity (abbreviated to "LV"), being an integer number between zero and tenm or zero and twenty-five if on the Circle Line Enact- The Doppler Effect The Doppler Effect is experienced by the Station Manager of King's Cross St. Pancrass if a player moves from King's Cross St. Pancras to King's Cross St. Pancrass via the Circle Line whilst LV=25 and the Doppler Effecting player indicates a [Red Shift] or [Blue Shift] action. Which are explained as follows: Red Shift - The Station Manager notices the player moving away from em. All of the player's tokens are move down the EM spectrum at the end of es turn. (Radioactive) Silver Tokens become Blue Token. Blue Tokens become (Yellow) Gold Tokens. Gold Tokens become Red Tokens. Red Tokens become (Infrared) Black Tokens. Black Tokens become (Radio Waves broadcasting which on the) Kudos (frequency.) Blue Shift- The Station Manager sees the player approaching em. All of the player's tokens move up the EM spectrum at the beginning of es next turn. (Infrared) Black Tokens become Red Tokens. Red Tokens become (Yellow) Gold. Gold Tokens become Blue. Blue Tokens become (XRays) Silver. Silver Tokens become a dangerous trail of Gamma Radiation blocking the quantity of Circle Line stations clockwise or anticlockwise from King's Cross St. Pancras (depending on the direction of travel) equal to the number of (formerly) Silver Tokens. {Comment: Its about time there be a way to win this game. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 121 - Ticket Stub Blocks / Anti Blocks [Enactment] A player may block a station at no cost if e has the Ticket Stub for that station. A player may pass through a blocked station if e has the Ticket Stub for that station. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
