-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Seven -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 063 - Maelberg-Brown Unblocking Multiple [Other, Multiple] Repeal 1004. Enact: Primrose Hill Geographical Society. The following Stations on Northern Line are officially North of Camden Town: Chalk Farm, Belsize Park, Hampstead, Golders Green, Brent Cross, Hendon Central, Colindale, Burnt Oak, Edgware, Kentish Town, Tufnell Park, Archway, Highgate, East Finchley, Finchley Central, West Finchley, Woodside Park, Totteride & Whetstone, High Barnet, and Mill Hill East. Enact: Windy Commons Geographical Society. The following Stations on the Northern Line are officially Soth if Kennington: Oval, Stockwell, Clapham North, Clapham Common, Clapham South, Balham, Tooting Bec, Tooting Broadway, Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon, and Morden. Enact: Gordon Brown's Fair Fare. A player may move to Mornington Crescent if e has 10 gold tokens, none of the Intersection stations along the Nothern line are blocked and eir current position is at a station on the Nothern line that is North of Camden Town or South of Kennington. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 064 - That's Not My Hand [Enactment] Each station shall have an attribute known as 'handedness.' A station may be left handed, right handed, or foolish. A station is foolish until entered and stopped at by a player. If the station is entered from the west or north (ie between 181 and 360 degrees on the LU Map), it shall become left handed. If the station is entered from the East or South, (ie between 1 and 180 degrees on the LU map) it shall become right handed. If the station is entered and passed through, it shall remain foolish. A left handed station may only be entered from the right upon payment of one red token, and a right handed station may only be entered from the left upon payment of one red token. This payment is incurred on top of any other penalty resulting from the move, and regardless of whether the station is being passed through or stopped at. Upon payment of this token the station shall adopt the opposite handedness to that which it previosuly enjoyed, ie a left handed station shall become right handed and vice versa. A foolish station may be passed through or stopped at without payment of any tokens of any colour. Once a station becomes handed, it cannot revert to foolishness no matter how much it wants to. Proposal ends. {Comment: Well, it's a bit of a laugh, isn't it.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 065 - That Glitter Is Not All Gold [Enactment] A player may purchase two (2) Silver tokens for one (1) gold token for as a PURCHASING action. A player may purchase two (4) Blue tokens for one (1) gold token for as a PURCHASING action. A PURCHASING action must unambigiously state the quantity and color of the tokens purchased. Additionally, it is the purchasers responsiblity to correctly update the Token Board section of the Game State document at time of purchase to reflect the post-purchase state of the Token Board.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 066 - Ticket Stubs [Enactment] There exits an Official document accounting for the British Rail Ticket Stubs of each player. Players receive one (1) British Rail Ticket Stub whenever they correctly play a GETTING STUB action. A Player may play a GETTING STUB action along with a move of "PASS" at any station that has a Connection with British Rail, provide that e is the first to do so at that station. Stations that have a Connection with British Rail within walking distance do not count. A GETTING STUB action may not be played at North London. {Comment: I noticed that there are exactly forty of these stations. Forty is a nice big number that divides evenly all sorts of ways. This has tremendous potential. BTW, the stations are: Amersham, Balham, Balham, Barking, Blackhorse Road, Cannon Street, Chalfont & Latimer, Charing Cross, Ealing Broadway, Elephany& Castle, Euston, Finsbury Park, Greenford, Harrow & Wealdston, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Kensington, Kentish Town, King?s Cross St. Pancrass, Limehouse, Liverpool Streer, London Bridge, Marylebone, New Cross, New Cross gate, Paddington, Queen?s Park, Richmond, Seven Sisters, South Ruislip, Stratford, Tottenham Hale, Upminster, Vauxhall, Victoria, Walthamstow Central, Waterloo, West Hampstead, West Ruislip, Willesden Junction, and Wimbledon } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 067 - No Comment [Amendment] Amend the last paragraph of rule 1002 from "If a Player's Move involves any manipulation of the Game State except that of the location of the Player's piece (which is obvious from eir Move), e should make a Comment on that Game State Document which clearly details this manipulation." to read "If a Player's Move involves any manipulation of the Game State Document other than the new location of the Player's piece (which is obvious from eir Move) or actions for the new move as enclosed in square brackets, e must make a Comment on that Game State Document which clearly details this manipulation." {Comment: There's loopholes and omissions in the old version; anyone using square-bracketed actions should have made a Comment in the past moves (and didn't, I believe) ; one could manipulate _previous_ locations of eir own Piece without making comment, and, finally, it read 'Game State' in place of 'Game State Document'. Nitpicky, but naughty.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 068 - On the Rebound [Enactment] If a player attempts to move along a line segment that contains a blocked station, that player will rebound off the station and return the way e came to the extent of eir line velocity. The blocked station will not be counted as a station when calculating line velocity, but the previous station will be counted twice. For example, if a player has a line velocity of 5 and tries to go from Turnpike Lane to Oakwood but Bounds Green is blocked, e will end up at Finsbury Park. The rebound must be stated in the Action section of the game state document in accordence will rule 1001, and shall take the following form: [Rebounding off ] This rule takes precedence over Rule 1016 in that the player changes Line direction during a move portion. {comments: This proposal is completely impotent if Line Velocities does not pass.} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 069 - Intersection Reflection [Amendment] The first paragraph of Rule 1016 (Go With The Flow) shall be amended to read as follows: "The following terms shall be defined with relation to a Move made by a Player: Move Node: the Station at which the Move commences, or the station at which the Move stops, or an Interchange Station at which the Player changes line or line branch. An Interchange Station which a Player passes through is only a Move Node if the Player changes line or line branch. A non-Interchange Station can only be a Move Node at the start or end of a Move. " { Comment: Following up on the Enactment of Rule 1021 to correct usage of Interchange Station rather than intersection, and to tidy up formatting. This Rule is targetted because it is the only Rule in the Week Six ruleset which uses 'intersection' incorrectly, and because a global search/replace would do damage to several rules which use 'intersection' in a different context. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 070 - Pythagoras Would Have Loved This [Enactment] The major compass points North, South, East and West shall be defined relative to the current Map when it is being read normally, North being up the page. The Map shall be considered to be divided into two pairs of Halves and four Quadrants, treating Tottenham Court Road as the Meridian (ie centre point) for both North-South and East-West axes. The Halves correspond to the four major compass points. The Halves are unnumbered, but each is paired with its opposite: North and South; East and West. Each Quadrant corresponds to the intersection of two overlapping Halves. For ease of reference, the resulting Quadrants are numbered clockwise as follows: Quadrant | Number ----------------+-------------- North East | 1 South East | 2 South West | 3 North West | 4 Each Station shall have attributes of Half and Quadrant determined by its location on the Map. With the exception of Totthenham Court Road, if a Station lies on a Half or Quadrant boundary, it shall be considered to reside in all Halves and Quadrants adjacent to the boundary. As the Meridian, Tottenham Court Road is considered to be in no Half or Quadrant. Any costs, penalties or Rules applying to crossing Half or Quadrant boundaries shall not affect a Move to or from Tottenham Court Road. { Comment: No current meaning for this, but it's another attribute we can do things with later. Examples of Quadrant boundary Stations are Notting Hill Gate, which is in both Quadrants 3 and 4, and Waterloo, which is both Quadrants 2 and 3. Strictly, 'four Quadrants' is a tautology, but in the Encyclopaedia Morningtonia at York (http://aurora.york.ac.uk/mc_em.html) there is mention of a Fifth Quadrant (although this is not used here). } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 071 - Token Extension [Amendment] In Rule 1007 (Token Gesture), the sentence which reads: "Valid Token colours shall be Black, Red, Blue, Silver and Gold." shall be amended to read: "Valid Token colours shall be Black, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Magenta, Brown, Grey, Silver and Gold." { Comment: Is five really enough types of Token? Course not. } --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
