-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Four -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 055 - Lurker Proposals [Enactment] Each Week, the Speaker shall collect any proposals sent to em by people not officially Players of Mornington Nomic, and choose from those Proposals the best, most useful and most fitting, in eir eyes. This Proposal shall be known as the Lurker's Proposal for that Week, and shall be submitted for Voting as if it were a regular Proposal. However, where conditions exist that allow a Player some change in the Game State for having submitted a Proposal, these conditions shall not occur for the Lurker's Proposal. The intent of this is to not allow anyone to benefit from the Lurker's Proposal in the same way as they would had they Proposed the Proposal. The Lurker's Proposal shall be marked in an appropriate way with the characters '[LURK]' so that Players know this is a Lurker's Proposal. Proposals that are Lurker Proposals automatically have a 50% Quorum and a 60% For vote requirement to pass. If there is a mechanism to record Quorum and voting requirements within the rules, then the Speaker is empowered by this paragraph to amend the relevant rules as necessary and to delete this paragraph from this Proposal. { Comment: Given that this Proposal was suggested by a lurker, it should technically be marked [LURK]. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 056 - The Bare Necessities [Amendment] Add to Rule 1002 after the paragraph "When posting an Updated Game State Document, a Player must make the following changes:" add the paragraph " * Remove from the previous Game State Document the Moves made least recently (those moves nearest the top of the Game State Document), until no more than three Moves by each Player remain in the Document." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 057 - Passing Where? [Amendment] In Rule 1002, replace The word "Pass". with "Pass [remaining at XXX]", where XXX is replaced by the name of the Station you were most recently moved to. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 058 - Spurious Map References [Enactment] Rule 1002 (Making a Move) shall be amended as follows: The paragraph which reads " * The name of any London Underground Station which appears London Underground Map at http://(whatever) (I'm currentl looking for a decent map to reference, here...)" shall be changed to read " * The name of any London Underground Station which appears London Underground Map" { Comment: Since the exact map is now defined by Rule 1015, the reference longer needed. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 059 - Line Velocity [Enactment] Each Player has a Line Velocity (abbreviated to "LV"), being an integer number between zero and ten. Players Line Velocities are detailed in the Game State Document, as an additional column in the table. Before each Move, a Player add or subtract any number between zero and three to or from their Line Velocity. This change should be indicated with the Action "[LV?X]", where "?" is either "+" or "-", and "X" is an integer number between one and three, as appropriate to the change in Line Velocity. The distance from a Player's Move to eir previous Move must be equal to eir Line Velocity. Viz; there must be "n-1" stations between both Moves, where "n" is the Line Velocity of the moving Player on the turn of eir second move - to move from Morden to Balham, for example, you must have an LV of 5. A Player may, at any time, perform the Action "[LV=0]" and set eir Line Velocity to zero. Upon Enactment of this Rule, all Players Line Velocities are set to zero. When a new Player joins the Game, eir Line Velocity is set to zero. { Comment: This gives a rather nice "speed" for all Players, which limits the scope of Moves to a fairly small radius (making it easier to pick your next Move), and to impose an amusing braking/accelerating effect which we can expand, later. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 060 - Token Rain [Enactment] Upon Enactment of this Rule, all Players who didn't vote AGAINST this Proposal shall gain two Red Tokens and two Blue Tokens. This Rule will then repeal itself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 061 - Decisiveness is the Key [Amendment] Add the following sentence before the final paragraph of Rule 1002:- "If a Player Votes either FOR or AGAINST all Proposals for that Week, excluding eir own, e gains three Kudos points." { Comments: All this wishy-washy Passing is slowing things down. Badly thought- out snap decisions. That's what we need. Oh yes. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 062 - Tokens! Tokens! Get 'Em While They're Hot, They're Lovely! [Amendment] Rule 1020 shall be amended as follows: The paragraph which reads: "If the relevant Player does not have sufficient Tokens to take the stated Token loss, the listed action cannot be performed." shall have the following sentences appended to it: "The calculation of such costs shall be performed in a sequential manner along the route of the Player's Move, such that a Player must possess the required Tokens at the point at which a cost would be incurred." {Comment: Basically this says that if you need three Blue Tokens along the way, you need those Tokens in hand before the Token cost is incurred: you can't go 'overdrawn' against a bounty of Tokens at the end of your Move.} The lines in the table referring to playing Morden and Waterloo shall be removed. { Comment: The arbitrary station usage spoils the structure of the Game, I think. If Mordern/Waterloo were blocked, you'd be prevented from getting Blue or Black Tokens. Hence the next few additions: } Lines shall be added to the table for the following events shall be added: Playing an Interchange with exactly two lines +1 Red Playing an Interchange with exactly three lines +1 Black Playing an Interchange with exactly four lines +1 Blue Playing an Interchange with exactly five lines +1 Silver Passing through exactly two Interchanges in a Move +1 Red Passing through exactly three Interchanges in a Move +1 Black Passing through exactly four Interchanges in a Move +1 Blue Passing through exactly five Interchanges in a Move +1 Silver { Comment: I think these are less arbitrary (if not necessarily easier to use) than the Morden/Waterloo station Moves. In counting lines at Interchanges, I am including BR tracks. Still haven't come up with a good way to get a Gold token yet, nor have we anything which costs Black tokens. } --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
