-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Four -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 031 - The Underground Map [Enactment] Mornington Nomic shall refer to the Underground Map of the current year, an example of which can be found at: http://www.londontransport.co.uk/system/printmap.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 032 - Distribution of Voting Results [Enactment] At Week's End, the Speaker is responsible for distributing the results of the Voting on the Week's Proposal(s). This distributed document shall be known as Voting Results and for each week where there is at least one proposal, Voting Results for the week are required. This document shall identify all the Proposals from the week and include all appropriate and relevant information concerning the each Proposal's passage or failure to. { Comment: Currently this information concerns Quorum, Proposal Name, Proposal Number, Proposer, Kudos, Individual Voters, and some scant Speaker comments. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 033 - Against with Right of Explanation [Amendment] Append between the 1st and 2nd paragraph of rule 200: If a player votes AGAINST eir own Proposal, e is entitled to the explain why e has done this. This explanation should not exceed 255 ASCII characters and is added to the Voting Results as a footnote. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 034 - Further Updates From... [Amendment] In Rule 1002: After "format given in Rule 1001" Add " * Update parts of the Game State Document other than the list of moves in any way specified as mandatory elsewhere in the Rules. " -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 035 - Conditional Block [Amendment] In Rule 1010 (Basic Blocks), the paragraph reading - "A Block may only be played on a station adjacent to that Moved to." shall have the following sentence appended to it: "A Block may not be played on a Station which is a Player's current position." { Comment: Just plugging a gap in the wording while waiting for Colours to be passed... } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 036 - Heathrow Loop-the-Loop [Enactment] The loop of the Piccadilly line running from Hatton Cross to Heathrow Terminal 4 to Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 to Hatton Cross may only be traversed in that order. { Comment: This would have an effect in combination with the Proposal 'Go With The Flow' of preventing a Move directly from Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 to Heathrow Terminal 4. If 'Go With The Flow' is not passed, then this Move is valid if it is considered to take place via Hatton Cross. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 037 - Go With The Flow [Enactment] The following terms shall be defined with relation to a Move made by a Player: - Move Node: the station at which the Move commences, or the station at which the Move stops, or an intersection at which the Player changes line or line branch. An intersection which a Player passes through is only a Move Node if the Player changes line or line branch. A non-intersection station can only be a Move Node at the start or end of a Move. Line Segment: The stretch of line between two Move Nodes. Stations along the Line Segment are said to be contained within it. Line Direction: The direction of travel along a Line Segment. Move Portion: The section of Move consisting of travel along a particular Line Segment. Junction: A point at which a line trunk splits into two or more branches. A Player may not change Line Direction during a Move Portion. If a Line Segment passes through a Junction, the Line Segment may not contain stations on more than one branch of that Junction. { Comment: The upshot if this is that a Player may not Move from one branch of a line to another without going via an interchange. So Gunnersbury -> Chiswick Park whilst staying on the District is invalid because the Player has to reverse direction on the line trunk. It is valid to travel Gunnersbury -> Chiswick Park VIA Acton Town VIA Hammersmith, since the Line Direction in each Move Portion does not change. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 038 - Crimes and Misdemeanours [Enactment] Any Move made in the Game of Mornington Crescent not in accordance with any of the Rules of the Game numbered above 1000 is an Illegal Move. This is in contrast with a move made not in accordance with a Rule numbered below 1000, which shall be considered an illegal alteration of an Official Document and treated accordingly. If a Move satisfies both of these conditions, the latter shall apply. An Illegal Move shall stand until it is Buzzed. Any Player may Buzz a previous Move by replying to a posting of the Game State Document and including the string "BZZZZZZZZZZT!" (or a similar string with a different number of Zs) together with an explanation of why the Move is invalid. After a Move has been Buzzed, the Player who made it may concede, in which case the Move is automatically declared Illegal, or submit a counterargument as to why the Move is in fact valid. In this case a Player shall be selected at random from those active, but not including the Player who made the offending Move or the Player who Buzzed, to act as Referee; the Referee shall then post to the mailing list a judgement as to whether the Move is Illegal or should stand. If no Player is available to act as Referee, the Move shall stand. No Move which is three or more turns old (i.e. that has three or more Moves following it in the Game State Document) may be Buzzed. Any Move that goes unchallenged for three or more turns shall stand regardless of its legality. No Move may be declared Illegal without being Buzzed. When a Move has been declared Illegal, the Game State shall revert to its condition before the Move was made. The order of play shall pass to the Player who was to Move after the Player who made the offending Move. The latter Player shall miss one turn and forfeit two Kudos points. The Player who Buzzed shall gain one Kudos point. This Rule takes precedence over any Rule whose number is greater than 1000. { Comment: The 'greater than' is deliberate. I don't like superseding Rule 1000. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 039 - Token Values [Amendment] Where Rule 1007 Token Gesture reads: Each Player has a set of positive integer numbers allocated to them, indicative of the numbers of Tokens of each valid Token colour they hold. Valid Token colours shall be Black, Red, Blue, Silver and Gold. It shall instead read: Each Player has a set of positive integer numbers allocated to them, indicative of the numbers of Tokens of each valid Token colour they hold. Valid Token colours shall be Black, Red, Blue, Silver and Gold. Each token shall have a representative numerical value, such that: black = 1 red = 2 blue = 3 silver= 4 gold = 5 { Comments: This is just to show the effectiveness of the tokens relative to each other, if you get my drift. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 040 - Shunting Proposal [Enactment] If a Player Moves to a station that is already occupied, e can elect to Shunt to that station. This is identical to a Move except that any players currently resting in the target Station are shunted to the nearest empty Station along the line in the same direction as the Player is Moving. Distance is determined purely by number of Stations encountered. If the Station is on an Interchange and two or more Stations along seperate Lines are empty and the same distance apart, the Player performing the Shunt can choose the destination. The Shunt shall be specified in the Action section of the Game State Document in accordance with Rule 1001, and shall take the following form: [Shunting to ] A typical excerpt from the Game State Document would be:- Brooke-Taylor : Euston Cryer : Finsbury Park Garden : Euston Rushton : Euston [Shunting Brooke-Taylor and Garden to Warren Street] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 041 - Dollis Hill Loop [Enactment] If a Player's Move is "Dollis Hill", the next Player to make a Move must either:- * Play "Dollis Hill" as eir Move. * Give one Red Token to the preceding Player. This Rule takes preference over any Rules which define Dollis Hill to be an illegal Move. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 042 - Token Collection [Enactment] The following list details certain actions or events in the game of Mornington Crescent, and the amount and Colour of Tokens that the relevant Player gains or loses from this. If the relevant Player does not have sufficient Tokens to take the stated Token loss, the listed action cannot be performed. Action / Event | Token Change ----------------------------------------------------+------------------ | Playing "Mornington Crescent" as eir Move | -1 Gold | Playing "Morden" as eir Move | +1 Black | Playing "Waterloo" as eir Move | +1 Blue | Playing a Station adjacent to the previous | +1 Blue Player's Move, as eir Move | | Playing a Station on the opposite side of the | -3 Blue Thames to eir previous Move, as eir Move | | Playing any Station on the Central Line as | +1 Red eir Move | | Blocking a Station | -1 Red | { Comment: Well, we could use some way of getting our Token levels up a bit, couldn't we? Feel free to Amend additions next Week. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 043 - Name That Station [Enactment] A Player may Move to any Station whose first letter is the same as the first letter of that Player's Name, provided it is on the same line. This Rule takes precedence over Rules concerning Blocking. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 044 - Steele's Token Theft [Enactment] Any Player who plays "Belsize Park" as eir Move may take a single Token from one other Player of eir choice. A Player cannot take a Token if e has no Tokens of that Colour already, or if eir victim has no Tokens of that Colour. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --
