-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week Three -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 021 - Dogs Must Be Carried [Enactment] The moves "Monument (for Bank)" and "Bank (for Monument)" are valid Moves. A Player whose position is such that a Move to Bank or Monument is permitted by any other Rule may specify use of the Escalator Link by appending "(for Monument)" or "(for Bank)" respectively. That Player's position is then deemed to be at the station specified in the brackets, whether or not a direct Move to that station would have otherwise been possible at the time. This Rule takes precedence over all other Rules defining valid Moves. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 022 - Tracking Tokens [Enactment] That there be an Official Document, which is freely available to all Players which provides the following information: For every Player, how many Tokens of each variety, does e have? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 023 - Routes [Enactment] A Move to another Station is considered valid if there is an unobstructed route to the destination along the same line {Comment: If the current position is Morden and the destination is Oval, so long as the route was on unobstructed along the Northern line, "Oval" is a valid move.} OR exactly one unobstructed route to the destination. This route may consist of any combination of route segments so long as each route segment is an unobstructed route along a single line. This route is indicated by appending a " via " statement (hence VIA statement), where is an Interchange station, after the name of the destination immediately to the left of the VIA statement. {Comment: If the current position is Morden and the destination is Oval, so long as the route is unobstructed, "Oval via Elephant & Castle via Baker Street via Green Park via Stockwell" is also a valid move.} {Comment: "Obstructed" means anything which prevents a particular route segment, whether that be a block, or a fare, or some other rule is not and need not be within the scope of this rule} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 024 - Let's Have Some Colour Round The Place [Enactment] There shall exist in the Game of Mornington Crescent the concept of Colour. Anything which has meaning in the Game may possess a Colour, as stated in this or other Rules. A Colour possesses a Colour; its Colour is itself. This Rule defers to all other Rules in the matter of assigning Colours. The Colour of something may change during the Game as stated in this or other Rules. { Comment: This is deliberately a very vague definition of the concept of Colour. There's nothing to stop "Haddock" being added to the set of Colours, for example. } The set of Colours consists of: Brown; Red; Yellow; Green; Gold; Puce; Grey; Maroon; Black; Purple; Blue; Hint-of-a-tint Lilac; Polka; Crystal; Invisible; The names of Colours may be used as adjectives; hence for example a Token which possesses the Colour "Green" may be referred to unambiguously as a "Green Token". This example is purely an example and shall not be taken as implying the existence of any such thing as a Token, nor that Tokens possess Colours, nor that Green is a valid Colour, except as specified by this or other Rules. { Comment: Thanks are due to [The Unknown] Anorak who first (as far as I know) made use of hint-of-a-tint lilac on the York Server. I thought that it was such a wonderful colour it deserved preserving. This Proposal was unfortunately delayed from last Week. Later Amendments should follow, if it Passes, to bring in line the different definitions of valid Colours existing in the Rules. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 025 - End Homelessness in London [Enactment] Any Player whose position is undefined at any time during the Game of Mornington Crescent shall be considered to be positioned at that Player's Home Station. No Player without a Home Station may make a move in the Game of Mornington Crescent. If play is halted under this Rule for more than 48 hours, the Player whose turn it is not naming a Home Station within this time period, the turn will pass to the next Player in the order of play, the Game continuing from this point as if a move of Pass had been made. Any Player whose position is undefined and who has no Home Station shall be ignored when applying any Rule which refers to the positions of Players. If the wording of any Rule is such that it cannot be applied without reference to the position of such a player, that Rule shall be invalid. This Rule takes precedence over any Rules pertaining to the Game of Mornington Crescent. If at any point the state of the Rules and of the Game of Mornington Crescent is such that play cannot proceed on account of one or more Players being without a Home Station, any Players without a Home Station shall immediately be assigned Dollis Hill as a Home Station. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 026 - Move Tweaking [Amendment] In Rule 1002 (Making a Move), append to the list of valid Moves:- " * Any sequence of characters which is described in another Rule as being a valid Move." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 027 - Amersham Slam [Enactment] If the first Move of the Week is to Amersham, all subsequent Moves must conform to the Amersham Slam condition which is defined as: The Player, whose turn it is, must Move to another Station which is either South or East of the location of the player who just Moved. The Amersham Slam condition persists until any player moved to Morden or Beckton. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 028 - Hotel on Mayfair [Amendment] Add the following paragraph to the end of Rule 1006 (Home Stations):- "If a Player's Move takes em on or through another Player's Home Station, the moving Player must give that Station's owner one Gold or Silver Token (moving Player's choice). If the moving Player has no Gold or Silver Tokens, e may not Move on or through that Station." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 029 - Tell Us What You're Doing [Amendment] Add the following paragraph to the end of Rule 1002 (Making a Move):- "If a Player's Move involves any manipulation of the Game State except that of the location of the Player's piece (which is obvious from eir Move), e should make a Comment on that Game State Document which clearly details this manipulation." If Proposal 016 did not pass during the previous Week, this Amendment will not take effect after passing. { Comment: Just so that other people can clearly see when a Token is lost or a Home Station is changed, or whatever, to avoid too much sneakiness. For now. Secret rules can come in later... } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 030 - That Is Illogical, Captain [Amendment] Where Rule 1008 (Keeping the Piece) reads - "A Move to another station is considered valid if and only if:" it shall instead read - "A Move to another Station is considered valid if at least one of the following conditions is true:" { Comment: This just tidies up a dubious bit of wording in the Rule. } ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --
