-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MORNINGTON NOMIC Proposals for Voting on in Week One -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 001 - Kudos [Enactment] Every Player has a Kudos score (an integer number, positive or negative), which is kept in an Official Document known as the Kudos Chart. The Kudos Chart is distributed by the Speaker at the end of each Week along with all other relevant Official Documents. Players receive one Kudos point for every Player who Votes FOR one of eir Proposals, and lose one Kudos point for every Player who Votes AGAINST one of eir Proposals. If a Player Votes FOR one of eir own Proposals, e loses three Kudos points. If a Player fails to follow Rule 1001 when posting an update of the Game State Document to the Mailing List, e loses two Kudos points. When a new Player joins the game of Mornington Nomic, e starts with a Kudos score of zero. Upon Enactment of this Rule, all Players are assigned zero Kudos points, with points immediately being awarded according to the results of Voting at the end of Week One. This paragraph will remove itself from the Rule upon Enactment. { Comments:- Not an *actual* scoring system, in that your Kudos doesn't affect the Game at all, but it gives a method by which we can see which Players are being the most successful in terms of Proposals, and also a system to frown on Players who Vote FOR eir own Proposals. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 002 - Home Stations [Enactment] Each player must state eir Home Station by announcing this fact on the Mailing List. A Player cannot have as a Home Station one that is already taken, unless all the previous occupants agree. A list of each of the players Home Stations must be given in all Game State postings. { Comment: Although this could get cumbersome. We'll cross that bridge if we come to it. } A Player cannot have Mornington Crescent as eir Home Station. { Comment: I can't think of anything else at the moment, at least until we define a few more game terms. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 003 - Treading on the Lines [Enactment] A Player may only play a Station as eir Move if that Station is on the same Line as eir previous Move. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 004 - Abolishment of Nowhere [Enactment] Players may not move to Nowhere. If a player is Nowhere for any reason (such as beginning of game condition) e is required make any valid move other than "Pass." { Speaker's comment: This doesn't appear to say anything that Rule 1002 doesn't say already... } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 005 - Miss Pritchep I [Ammendment] Where Rule 1002 reads: "State Document, in the format given below, and nothing more. A typical excerpt from the Game State Document would be:- Brooke-Taylor : Rotherhithe Cryer : Great Portland Street Garden : Amersham Rushton : Mornington Crescent " it shall instead read: "State Document, in the following format: : Where is the name of the player making the Move and is a valid Move. A typical excerpt from the Game State Document would be:- Brooke-Taylor : Rotherhithe Cryer : Great Portland Street Garden : Amersham Rushton : Mornington Crescent " -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 006 - Quorum [Enactment] In any given Week, any Player who makes any Votes FOR or AGAINST is considered present. At least one third of all Players present must vote FOR a Proposal in order for it to pass. This Rule takes precedence over Rule 201. { Comment: For the sake of jurisprudence, this rule should be interpreted so that if a player fails to vote on a proposal or makes an invalid vote, there is an implict vote of PASS. } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 007 - Token Gesture [Enactment] Each Player has a set of positive integer numbers allocated to them, indicative of the numbers of Tokens of each valid Token colour they hold. Valid Token colours shall be Black, Red, Blue, Silver and Gold. Players voting for this rule will receive one Blue Token. Players who pass or abstain from voting will receive one Red Token. This paragraph will remove itself from the Rule immediately after its Enactment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 008 - Dollis Hill Loop [Enactment] If a Player's Move is "Dollis Hill", the next Player to make a Move must also play "Dollis Hill" as eir move. This Rule takes preference over any Rules which define Dollis Hill to be an illegal Move. { Comment: No way out of it yet, of course - we'll just have to wait for an Amendment if we get stuck in one... } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal 009 - Keeping the Piece [Enactment] Each Player has one Piece which may be moved. Before a Player's Move, a Piece's current position is at the last station Moved to be the Player (unless otherwise modified). A Move to another station is considered valid if and only if: - there is a continuous and unobstructed route along London Underground lines from the Piece's current position to the station to be Moved to. - some other Rule defines an alternative route. If a Move is not valid, the Piece is considered to remain at its current position. { Comment: There are several deliberate hooks in this Proposal for future Rules, but I won't bore the list with precise descriptions. } ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --
