So everyone knows, I am attempting to get things back up to date this evening.
This may take more than one night, however, since I have to take care of
everything since 26 September! If things remain settled for the rest of the
week, I may be able to do some of the automation...

I haven't been playing mostly because I've only been going online at work
but I just signed up for some free internet access so that is all about to
change...

If I am in Limbo, I come out of Limbo.

If I am not in the judging pool, I add myself to the judging pool.

If there are unfilled positions on the Supreme court, I nominate myself for
a Supreme Court Justiceship.

I transfer one slack from myself to Joel Uckelman, because I feel like
getting rid of it.

I donate all my remaining slack to the Thelma charity fund. (Note this is
a donation, not a transfer. At least in my book its different--transfers
are player to player, and the charity fund isn't, but I might need to
reread the rules.)

When (hopefully not if) you get it on tracks, perhaps you could add a zipped
version of the rules to the site?

I hate having to pay my phone company every time I need to check a rule.

Another option could be periodically posting the ruleset to the list.

Both methods have their drawbacks, of course.

You dirty bastard. Joel's been bordering on outright insanity from
overwork for four weeks now, and NOW you give him some new automated
function which--having heard it--he will feel obligated to explore.

You realize, if he cracks and comes after me (his roommate) with a gun or
knife, I'm going to have to break him. And then who's gonna run Nomic, eh?

I almost have things back up to date now, and am working on some automatic
reminders for voting. Everything should be ready to go (sort of) again by
Monday.

As for some things I've been mulling over:

Does anyone have an opinion on splitting official business off to a separate
list so it can be automatically parsed and posted to the page? Doing so
successfully would require the modification of R106/1 and at least an
agreement to send proposals and RFJs in a consistent format.

Another possibility could be to have someone responsible for receiving such
things.
Such an officer should then have a duty to repost it in the proper format.
But then, we aren't Agora and I suppose we don't want to be.

I don't actually see any reason to have separate lists, isn't all
business "official" business? We don't seem to have enough activity most
of the time anyway... :) If the purpose is to make automation of the web
pages easier, the only problem would be getting people to use the second
list. It might be easy enough to just put a subject in as we have been
doing that referrs to the business at hand. There is also the
possibility of someone taking advantage of the automation scripts
and doing bad things to your computer...

I don't think we need another forum for official business. I would
suggest headers in the subject line. With the proper header or perhaps
with the proper code in the post, then you could parse it for auto-post.
I would rather see all business in one email list, even if I have to pay
attention to headers or ignore embedded codes.

So long as we remind people to use it, it should be ok.

Given what I'm envisioning, the worst thing that could happen would be the
script being unable to parse a message and skipping it.

I'm sorry about missing my deadline for having things running again.
Thanksgiving break begins on Friday. I promise that I'll get to it during
break, at the very latest.

I have created a zip file with all of the rules from the Beserker site.
This includes a framed page similar to the 'official' page and includes
all rules; logical, numerical, historical, initial, and indexed. If
anyone is interested I can email you the zip. Total size is 117 Kb for
the zip file that expands to 462 Kb.

I now know when I'll *definitely* have time to get things back on track --
when the semester is over in three weeks. I apologize once more for delaying
things this much -- this WILL be the first thing I do when winter break
starts. Once again, thanks for your incredible patience, everyone.
