There's been a noticeable drop off in list activity in the past few weeks -- I was just wondering what happened to everyone. 2. Would anyone object if I posted some fliers for the game around campus (ISU, for those who aren't here) in order to drum up some interest and maybe get a few more players? If people don't want me to do this, I won't, but I think it might be a good idea. Anyway, I'd like to hear others' opinions on the matter. -- J. If we're going to put up fliers in multiple places, we could save ourselves some time by just designing one. Along those lines, a recent experience that I think is relevant: Last week, our quiz bowl club posted fliers around campus to attract new members. We were moderately successful (we've had about 8 new people show up after posting something like 250 fliers, so that's about 0.0046 per filer per day). Why do I mention this? Firstly, because of the content of the flier, and secondly due to our expected recruiting numbers. What does one put on a flier for a nomic game? At least for quiz bowl, little explanation is needed, as most anyone who would be interested in quiz bowl would likely already have a conception of what it is. With nomic, on the other hand, I've never met anyone who already knew what it was when I mentioned it. So, I see that as a problem that needs to be overcome somehow. Additionally, while we didn't exactly have a torrent of newbies show up for quiz bowl, there is still the real danger that we could be overrun by a horde of new players if we advertised ourselves too much. It might be a good idea to have a rule to deal with this! situation before we do it (e.g. create a Senate, or something). Oh, yeah -- the above just suggested something to me: we could have an Office of the Promoter whose job it is to let the world know we exist (through getting us indexed in search engines, designing fliers for us to post, etc.) Does anyone like that idea? -- J.
