I did post Phoebe's wisdom, and O Olde Alpha found Phoebe thereafter. However, it's been more than a week since the wisdom was posted, so it was O Olde Alpha who lost Phoebe. -- Duncan C. I marked all the existing proposals as belonging to no subcommittee, and added code to insert a Sphere: header in each proposal; ":None:" is the name used for such sphere-less proposals: I saw that I forgot to tell the bot to hit return after that subcommittee report line; I will fix it. > Proposal 4138 > ..and the Board has turned over and the Pieces are all scattered > Niccolo Flychuck > Due: Fri Apr 9 04:50:43 1999 > Sphere: :None: > Status: accepted When spheres of influence exist, you will be required to select one as the subcommittee for each proposal you submit. To do so, in your mail, before the #submit proposal command, include a #sphere command. The syntax is the word #sphere followed by the name of the sphere you select. This selection stays in effect until the next #sphere command in your message, or until the end of the message. There will be two valid names the bot will recognize for each sphere. One will be, as closely as is feasible, the full name of that Sphere of Influence. The other will be a simple alias or abbreviation, such as cotmd for the Church of the Markovian Dream (if that had been a Sphere of Influence). I will announce the alias names when I enter a sphere into the bot's database. To specify a sphere for your proposal during the time between its creation and its entry into the bot's database, just submit it with no sphere chosen; the bot will either send it out marked for no sphere, or reject it, as appropriate. In either case, e-mail me directly with your sphere choice for the proposal, and I will correct the record. Any #sphere command which specifies a sphere the bot does not recognize is treated as a specification of no sphere, so you can just trying specifying the sphere's name, if you like, but still be sure to e-mail me about it so I can fix it as soon as possible. Also, please *read* the bot responses; there are certain to be times when somebody's proposal doesn't go out because e has typoed a sphere's name. Of course, all this code for spheres is new and barely tested, so it could break; if the bot does anything weird, e-mail me. That said, I am interested in forming a sphere with some other players. [I just had an odd mental image of players globbed together into geometrical spheres with their heads sticking out, and the heads of justices in the same cortex fused together so that their spheres just touch, and thought about how many spheres and cortices we would need before they can't all be arranged this way in 3-space, and decided it would require far more justices than we have now, maybe more than all the players who have ever been justices in the history of Ackanomic.] /dev/joe ------------------------------ From: JT Subject: Re: Acka: Subcommittees & Spheres & Stuff Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 15:03:08 -0400 (EDT) On Sat, 10 Apr 1999, Joseph DeVincentis wrote: > That said, I am interested in forming a sphere with some other players. I'm quite interested in being involved. Well, let's get the ball rolling, then. I announce my intent to form an institution. The rules don't require me to choose a name yet, but I'll be taking suggestions, or else I will invoke the (not yet implemented in the bot) enhanced generic proposal namer and randomly choose a TMBG song to name it after. This institution is, of course, intended to be a Sphere of Influence, but that specification also doesn't happen until the thing is actually formed. JT and Slakko: publicly announce your intent to join this institution. /dev/joe ------------------------------ From: JT Subject: Re: Acka: Subcommittees & Spheres & Stuff Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 18:08:41 -0400 (EDT) On Sat, 10 Apr 1999, Joseph DeVincentis wrote: > Well, let's get the ball rolling, then. > > I announce my intent to form an institution. > > The rules don't require me to choose a name yet, but I'll be taking > suggestions, or else I will invoke the (not yet implemented in the bot) > enhanced generic proposal namer and randomly choose a TMBG song to > name it after. > > This institution is, of course, intended to be a Sphere of Influence, but > that specification also doesn't happen until the thing is actually formed. > > JT and Slakko: publicly announce your intent to join this institution.
