The Illuminatus rule specifies 'the Magic Number' not 'eir Magic Number' or the Magic Number of any specific player. Given that there used to be a part of the Game State known as the Magic Number, and that part of the Game State (while now unregulated for Ackanomic as a whole) was not changed in any fashion since the change to rule 8-4 (I think.. not sure), I believe it retained the value that it had at the time it was repealed. This is consistant with game custom and the spirit of the game. --JT -- [-------------------------------------------------------------------------] [ Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. ] [ It's hard to seize the day when you must first grapple with the morning ] [-------------------------------------------------------------------------] ------------------------------ From: Mitchell Harding Subject: You're Invited! Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 03:29:16 -0500 (EST) There is going to be a party at my apartment. I've written this play to explain: You: A party? Hot damn! When? Me: Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st. These are the last two days of UT's Spring Break. You: Why two days? Me: Because there will be a lot of people there who haven't seen each other in a long time, so I want there to be plenty of time. You: But still...two days?!?!? Me: Yes, but if you can only make it on one day, come on Sunday. That is the more "official" date. You: Okay, but what time is this shindig being held? Me: Well, it's over a month in advance, but I'll say it will start at noon on each day. That having been said, you are free to show up early or late. The party will run all day and probably late into the night. You: Okay. So, who is going to be there? Me: Lots of people. You, hopefully. Also, my brother Matt. Many people from TAMS. Curtis Klager. Monica Brown. Joel Thomas. Brian Farr. Josh Small. Many others. You: Good, good. What will be going on at this party? Me: Good question. I don't know. A lot of "mingling", food and drink. But there may be swimming, volleyball, movies, music, games, and other activities. We have the entire weekend. You: Got it. So what should I bring? Me: You don't need to bring anything, but food or drink would be appreciated. Or you could donate a little money to the hosts. But this is all optional. By optional I mean, of course, that you will be ostracized for failing to do this. You: I see. Optional? Me: Yes, optional. You: [uncertainly] Okay.... Me: Look, you, this is just the invitation. Don't get uppity with me. You: All right, all right. Sheesh! Okay, ummmm, where do you live? Me: 1712 Woodward Apt 106, Austin, Texas, 78741. You: Where is that? Me: Send me e-mail if you need directions! You: Ummmmm. Ok. What's your phone number? Me: 512-707-8614. You: Er... I don't have any other questions right now, but what if I think of some? Me: Then send me e-mail or call me. And please, RSVP if you think you can be there. You: Okay, but send me more e-mail when the time for the party draws closer. Me: Done! Deal! I will. Oh, and if you need transportation from Houston, e-mail Bumboclot@aol.com (Curtis Klager). He's offered to give rides to needy people. You: Curtis is scary. Me: I know. I was on wrestling team with him in ninth grade. You: Yikes! Me: You're telling me. Max Fischer: Take dictation. You: Who the hell is that? Me: Forget about it. The playwrite is tired. You: Obviously. Me: Shut up, or he'll write you out of this play. So anyway, write to me to RSVP or if you have any questions. You: Aye, aye, captain. And so it is done. I change it to 300. and that is done too. Fortunately, that doesn't change any of these agenda hats :) Please note that I do in fact have a proposal in the queue which fixes this up and reinstates a global magic number so that this rule (and one other which refers to the previous incarnation of the magic number) will once more work. --JT -- [-------------------------------------------------------------------------] [ Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. ] [ It's hard to seize the day when you must first grapple with the morning ] [-------------------------------------------------------------------------] ------------------------------ End of ackanomic Digest V4 #46 ******************************
