Niccolo Flychuck ------------------------------ From: Matt Miller Subject: Acka: Tug-O-War. Date: Fri, 01 Jan 1999 20:06:59 -0500 (EST) I want to see more contention in rule changes. I want people to have to throw their weight behind a proposal. I'd like to see a more politically charge environment. What's -wrong- with seniority? What's -wrong- with a parliamentary style of government? I would like to see our President elected by political parties. I would like to see Parties become good for something beyond the odd Unity vote and letting people play Chess. IB ------------------------------ From: JT Subject: Re: Acka: Tug-O-War. I would just find it boring. I *like* the fact that new players can if they choose (like I did) jump in with both feet and play. I would not want to see that go away because I feel that if it did, the likelyhood of attracting new players would diminish even further. >I would like to see our President elected by political parties. I would >like to see Parties become good for something beyond the odd Unity vote >and letting people play Chess. Go ahead and propose it then. If the proposal makes sense and seems fun, I'll probably vote for it. And right now parties aren't good for anything :) --JT [-------------------------------------------------------------------------] [ Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. ] [ It's hard to seize the day when you must first grapple with the morning ] [-------------------------------------------------------------------------] ------------------------------ From: K 2 Subject: Re: Acka: Tug-O-War. I must be missing something here.... what is meant by 'seniority' and 'parlimentary' and hoe does that stop players from having two feet? The main problem I see with the idea is that we have few, if any, fundamental differences with which to split the populace into factions. If we had such, then we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. Without ideological rallying points, there is nothing to hold a truly political party together, and little hope of really putting together a coalition of any type. >I would like to see our President elected by political parties. I would >like to see Parties become good for something beyond the odd Unity vote >and letting people play Chess. Perhaps what we should do is intentionally introduce some chaos into the ruleset. Before you ask, I'm not sure exactly what I mean. But a few things over which we can really contend. On a seperate but related note, I would like to see the whole paradigm system revamped so that individual aspects of the paradigm can be adjusted without a wholesale shift of paradigm. For instance, there is a clear dichotomy between anti-voting and non-anti-voting, and that should be decided independantly of other aspects of the paradigm.
