Hey! I think I might just lower my Voting Characteristic by 1, get A$2000, make it into 500 points. Hey - that's a nice way to win a cycle - I wonder if everyone else will try it too! Yes - research. I'm just pointing out the reason I made the Ackadollar to point conversion rate so high. -- Duncan C. Richer aka Slakko the Lost Warner Brother | Queens' College http://www.dpmms.cam.ac.uk/~dcr24/ Ackanomic | U. of Cambridge Web-Harfer, Clerk of the Court, Map-Harfer, Justice | 2nd Year PhD(PMa) ------------------------------ From: K 2 Subject: Acka: Boring Proposals Date: Sun, 14 Feb 1999 11:58:02 -0500 (EST) There was a light breeze coming off of the Ackanomic river and players were gathered around chatting - small talk mainly; like how the Ackanomic beach would've been a cooler location (if only it had got past the planing stages), how dark it is without a sun (another example of the incompetence of the Ackanomic Planning Council) and of course the rapid approach of Autumn (at least the APC got *that* right). As the latest proposal results flood in, P4058 causes a small stir - its boring! The second ever boring proposal goes to Slakko, taking pride of place next to the only other boring proposal, (which e earned shortly after the definition was added to the rules). Rumours of it being boring only on a technicality are quickly squashed and although some players mutter darkly about the end of the game, the general mood is generally congratulatory. Proposals come and go, finally, with the acceptance of P4062, the definition of boring is once more mutated and players watch in horror as it stalks over to the proposal queue to feed.... Collectively holding eir berth, the crowd waits for a proposal to be devoured - P4064. A sigh of relief. A truly boring proposal. K 2 ------------------------------ From: K 2 Subject: Acka: Proposal 4067 rejected and other interesting game state features Date: Sun, 14 Feb 1999 12:06:13 -0500 (EST) P4062 adjusted the way in which Mannna gain is calculated in the region 60-100. Specifically it caused the calculation to be rounded down where previously it was rounded up. The bot doesn't appear to have been updated yet.... /dev/joe ==> 196 Jenny ==> 216 K 2 ==> -1 **K 2 has -ve Mannna and is fined 10 Mannna** K 2 ==> -11 ackabot@ackanomic.org wrote: > Proposal 4067 > > Acceptance Index: -159: proposal rejected > > Votes to accept: > K 2 200 -100 ==> 1 While I'm here I may as well add my -2 Mannna worth to the -ve entity thing :-) -ve Entity Ownership ******************** What happens to a player with 0 Mannna who loses 1 Mannna? Mathematically e would have -1 Mannna. Since in the case of both points and Mannna -ve quantities are permitted to exist this doesn't present a problem, after all Mannna is a virtual currency. A similar situation would arise in RL with a bank account containing $0, when $1 is spent from it (presuming an overdraft facility) the account has $-1 in it - even though there are no $-1 coins. Entity Conversion ***************** >From the appro. rule: Any player may [...] (i) The conversion of K points into 2 K Ackadollars. Given the preceding argument, the question then arises: did else...if's point conversion work? Though out the rules entities are accorded specific privileges and responsibilities with regard to entities they own - the right to manipulate that entity for game effect - no more than 5 otzma cards may be owned - the ability to designate a building home etc. In all these cases, the permission to perform the manipulation is granted by restricting the manipulation to the entity's owner - it is not an intrinsic quality of ownership to have exclusive manipulation rights - i.e. the rules do not preclude the manipulation of an entity owned by someone else. Rule XXX, fails to limit the points that may be converted to those the player owns, thus, it follows that all points currently existing in the game (~520) are available for conversion by Rule XX (permissibility of the un-prohibited), fortunately all of the scam conversions used figures much higher than 520 (since it is known that 521 points do not exist to be converted), and thus the harfing of eir failure is correct. Smaller figures would, however, work... Entity Ownership **************** Since Rule XX don't discuss ownership, I assume, without putting to much thought into it, that ownership doesn't change. Thus if my 50 points are converted to A$100 I continue to own that A$... like a apple becoming an orange (or Cave lion becoming a WMoPC ;) The type of entity has changed - the properties associated with it have not {cfj 167 implies that explicit destruction of an entity is required - it seems logical to extend this to other properties of entities (other than eir existence ;)} Entity Creation *************** While writing this message, a thought occurred to me.... Rule 8-4 handles the creation and destruction of points as necessary.. in the case of Mannna there is no such clause, specifically Rule 7 (Entities) states :"An entity may not be created, destroyed, or manipulated except as specified by the Rules". So where then is the Mannna coming from that players are 'gaining' and 'losing'. Presumably lost points go Somewhere else and since loss didn't constitute a destruction, gain doesn't constitute a creation.... so the amount of Mannna is fixed.....
