Well, technically, a vowel(/a/) and a glide(/y/), in that case, I believe. Although the glides /y/ and /w/ tend to be roughly equivalent to /i/ and /u/ anyways... Personally, I wouldn't find it difficult to determine which y's are vowels and which are consonants. In "cry" and "sleepy" it's a vowel, in "young" and "sayonara" it's a consonant. Okay, I suppose something like "saying" is a bit more ambiguous. Never mind.
