I'll play ghost. Think I'll pass on mediocrity -- I know it all too
well. ;)

OK,

Mao, Vynd, joe, Studge, and K 2 all sent in the right definition, which means

Red Mao Gang wins.

e prolly gets a trophy. No ref == no ref fee. I'm too lazy to look up
anything else that happens.

and racing down the beach toward the water the other sailors and i leapt
into the creamy foam of the surf and swam as if our lives depended on it
toward the slowly retreating longboats as behind us the blinded giant
screamed prayers to the gods and hurled rocks as large as chariots at us
missing here by a few feet smacking down here with a cruel crunch of bone
and a muffled cry then a deep red spreading slowly through the
mediterranean blue until finally all were aboard and rowing back but with
rocks coming more quickly now and quicker and quicker until it made no
sense that there could be only one giant especially a blind giant taking
into consideration the accuracy with which the boulders were hurled and i
said to the men i said hang tight men for by athena we will make it back to
ithica yet but the men kept silent and rowed and all around me i watched my
boats sink until the one i was on and one other were the only boats left
and the tide had been stained a deep crimson by the lifesblood of my men
and as a sudden stillness came down on us i took the hem of my robe in my
hand and prayed to athena to take me home to take us all home and let me
tell you that whatever that old blind fool homer says none of the rest of
that is true not one whit because the giant or maybe the multiple giants
didnt hit us again and instead we made it to the boat because of the hem of
that robe and i will tell you why because i know it would make no sense to
just say that we were saved by the hem of my robe but we were and it was
truly a miracle of athena godess of wisdom because what she did was she
took the hem of my robe and stretched it out in a rainbow of colors and
stretched it in a shield over my two longboats and there i was standing
there my robe stretched out to cover all my men and everything but me and
the rocks were raining down and i took one on my forehead where i still
have this scar here and i took another in the shoulder and damn near
blacked out but i kept standing there with the hem of my robe stretched out
over my men because i knew i was their only hope and i looked up toward
olympus and i said to myself if i get out of this alive i will bow down and
pray to pallas minerva three times a day for the rest of my life and
although there have been some rough times and all and sometimes i couldnt
tell if it was really day or night like in the underworld i still have
tried my very hardest to stand up to that oath and pray to mighty athena
that she protect me with her aegis from the thunderbolts of zeus and then
she took us safely onto my ship and relaxed the hem of my robe and i fell
to my knees as did my men and we praised her with loud clamorings and great
emotion and set sail once more for ithica and thus ends the first chapter
of my tale.

i play 'hem'.
