The *-ed moves conflict and thus were ignored.

I am wondering if we need a rule change to handle people forgetting to submit
their first moves -- as I see it, Pandora et al don't get a 3-move turn now.

Did it fall afoul of the downtime?

Not exactly. The ing word was posted by else...if at 18:43 May 27th,
after muppetlabs was back up. The end of the period for submitting
definitions was May 30th at that time, so else...if had until June 2nd
at that time to post the list of definitions. So else..if loses 4
gamepoints, plus 1 more for performing a default action*, and play
proceeds to the next round, with Attila the Pun as Brainiac; I think
his time to post an Ing word begins now, when this is publicly posted.

* Actually, I think he doesn't lose the extra point, because the default
action says no other scoring occurs this round, and appears later in the
rule so it has precedence. I think the whole "lose 1 point on default
actions" thing in Fictionary is confusing, and should be replaced by
explicitly writing out the penalty where and when it occurs. I know it
is supposed to negate the penalties for players who failed to submit
definitions, since, in some cases, the Brainiac might leave Ackanomic
and we might never find out whether some players submitted definitions
except by taking their own word for it, but isn't that retroactive?
Either make the penalties for such things all occur when the round ends,
or make the penalties be reversed by an appropriate score change when
the Brainiac fails to post the list of definitions.

I think that Fictionary needs to be extensively overhauled, actually, to
deal with times when a round is not completed on time. We've had several
occassions so far this game where the Brainiac took longer than he was
supposed to, and just ignored the fact that a bunch of default actions
probably should have occured. Once this game is done, I plan to submit
some fixes.

Subject: Acka: YORL duel play

My eyes filled with tears as I saw the result of my treachery, and I
simply stood watching the red-clothed soldiers bully the monks into a
circle. Soon enough the sergeant in charge saw me standing on the hill and
sent a troop of his men up to pick me up. As they prodded me down to the
valley with their rifles, I wondered, for the thousandth time, what I had
done.

The Lord High Inquisitor himself was there, and quickly pulled me out of
the crowd with a sickly smile. "Very well done, little birdy" he
pronounced aloud, in front of my gathered 'brother' monks. "You have led
us to a rich prize indeed - I must admit I had begun to have doubts about
your attachment to your little lady."

Slightly outside the cowering group of monks stood the Abbott and
Methuselah, held separately, and their eyes held none of the hostility
that the others clearly felt for me. Instead both looked at me sadly, and
Methuselah half-smiled ruefully.

"Sergeant. We will leave momenterally" snapped the Inquisitor. "It only
remains to leave a lesson for any who come here afterwards. Take him, and
hang him."

The head of the Scarlet Fist was pointing at Methuselah, and I couldn't
help myself any longer. "No. Please, don't." - my gasp was torn from me,
and received a mocking laugh in return, and a blow that felled me to my
knees from one of the Scarlet guards.

In short order they hauled Methuselah, unresisting, to a tree and tied a
noose around his neck. Slinging the rope over a bough, the Sergeant turned
to the Inquisitor, who merely nodded. Methuselah's serene face turned red
as he was hauled up into the air, and he shuddered before expiring. Many
of the monks were sobbing, and a few had cried out. I was not the only one
who loved 'Meth'.

The troop ignored me entirely as they gathered the others and marched off
in convoy, leaving me wallowing in self-pity and misery. Methuselah was
left in the tree, a sign of what was to come when the Scarlet Fist caught
up with you.

I lay there for a long time, through the night, and watched the dawn the
next morning before standing and following the soldiers to the city,
leaving the smoking ruins and the damned tree behind me. Kate would be
free by now.

Koxvolio plays 'tree'.
