Thanking Goldenmean (or, at least, /dev/joe's random card generator) I

My most wholehearted and heartfelt apologies for getting this off late.
If you beings wish to Impeach me as Brainiac, I would quite support it.
And thanks to Vynd for a much-needed prod.

AAAAAAnyway, in round 5 of Fictionary:

JT, to no one's surprise, submitted a correct definition for "spital,"
which was "A hospital." and gains 4 points. Other definition authorships
were as follows:

Slakko: Of or pertaining to farming; as in Spitalfields. (no votes)

else...if: A Doric pedestal. (TGW)

Vynd: feeling worse than usual, indisposed (/dev/joe)

TGW: A small stake. (else...if, AtP)

/dev/joe: A set of small skewers projecting out from a main spit. (Vynd)

AtP: a small container into which mushrooms may be placed. (no votes)

rufus: "" (no votes)

Slakko gained 2 points for voting for the correct definition.
/dev/joe voted for Vynd's, and Vynd returned the favor: they each gain 1
point.
TGW voted for else...if's, who gained 1 point.
Attila the Pun and a thankful else...if both voted for TGW's definition.
TGW gains 2 points, eir first. And second, for that matter.
rufus did not vote, and nobody voted for eir definition. E loses a point.

Hubert shifted tenses at least three times in the above five lines that e
noticed.

Slakko and Vynd both submitted adjectives and may be ridiculed. I would
do so myself, but am in somewhat of a hurry.

Scores are, I believe:
Slakko 3
rufus 2
JT 16
TGW 2
Hubert 12
Vynd 6
else...if 1
AtP -1
/dev/joe 5

if they are to include scoring from JT's aborted round. If not, I'll
leave it to our overworked Web-Harfer to determine what they should be.

(Note to Slakko for the web page: /dev/joe should have gained 3 points
during TGW's turn.)

With a wink, a nod, and a smile, I turn over the Brainiac duties to Vynd.

Great. I got 'representation' by a torturous process of elimination, but I
don't think I would have had a cat in hell's chance of guessing such a

You can ask, but don't expect it to be honored. That seemed like a pretty
typical truth to me, which is why I rate my chances of ever discovering

I realise of course that it is *very* bad form for a new player to come in and
start trying to tell everyone else how to play the game, but I think it is a
valid point that the Truth shouldn't rely too much on the guessers having to
possess arcane/specialist knowledge of *any* kind, except perhaps that which
can be gained by experience of playing Ackanomic.

Yes, I also figured "representation", as well as "has a date" since that
is a common way for Truths to start, and that day I was looking at the
last announced version of the Truth and the idea of plugging in a
"base N representation" hit me, so I wrote out all the dates the machine
had *ping*ed in bases 3, 7, and 8, and looked for what those numbers had
in common.

> Would it be bad form if I made a polite request to The Machine That Goes
> *Ping* to be a bit kinder on us arty-types next time it reveals a truth?

Unfortunately most of the good simple truths have already been used, so
pretty much all the ones we have now are obscure in some way. They don't
have to be mathematical but many of them will be. There was a very
different, non-mathematical idea I wanted to use as a truth this time, but,
for reasons I will leave unannounced, I chose to use something else, which
may or may not be mathematical. :-)

Despite this, recent Truths have been good in that they were guessable
with only a couple letters filled in, but not immediately obvious. I
commend those scholars for their ability to pick good Truths. (Whose
Truth was it that was guessed with no letters and 1 or 2 *ping*s?)

I wasn't disagreeing with you Pandora. I was just saying that there have
always been things like this going on in Acka. Machine Truths and
Treasure Maps in particular seem to be a popular place for mathematical
quirks and whatnot. I, like you, am not into that sort of thing, but it
seems to be a piece of Acka that is here to stay. I commented mainly so
you wouldn't think people were being deliberately mean when they keep
doing stuff like this. They're engineers and mathmeticians, they can't
help it. I do wish that they'd wise up, and realize that /dev/joe will
innevitably be the one to decipher their riddles, however. Sometimes I
think they may as well give him their prizes from the get-go. :)
