"This is the end, my lovely friend, the end" ["The End," The Doors] of
Round 7 of Word Un-Association. The attempt on the part of the Confused
to link from "biting" to "plumber" resulted in all kinds of links, from
the mundane to the farfetched to the hilarious.

For example, JT linked with "snake," which is accepted. Biting snakes are
common, and a plumber's snake is a very useful tool.

else...if attempted to link with "twist," saying that to bite something is
to twist it, and plumbers twist wrenches. This was, I'm afraid, rejected.

Koxvolio linked with "cleavage," which made me laugh until I stopped.
Biting definitely causes cleavage, and plumbers are infamous for their
somewhat, um, loose dress code. If you don't follow me, hire one sometime
and watch him bend over to fix your sink. This was accepted, and I give
Koxvolio a FairPlay award if I can.

Attila the Pun attempted to link with "entropy," claiming that biting
causes entropy and so do plumbers. Despite the amusing concept, this was
rejected.

Slakko attempted to link with "pipe," claiming that plumbers use pipes,
and you have to bite on a pipe if you wish to smoke it. The former was no
problem, and I was going to reject the latter, but decided to check
AltaVista just in case. Unfortunately, biting~pipe returned only 35
matches whereas plumber~pipe returned over 1000, so I went with my
original instincts and rejected this link. Slakko gains a FoulPlay award
for making me check AltaVista the most of any player so far. :-)

TGW did not provide a link word in time.

Scores are:
Koxvolio: 7
JT: 6
Slakko: 5
TGW: 4
Attila the Pun: 2
else...if: 1
rufus: 1

If TGW would link from "plumber" in Round 8, I would be vastly obliged.

Also, since we've finished an entire round of rounds, I think I'll go a
bit easier on the Confused and see if we can speed this up a little.

It was a beautiful Winter's morning when I arrived at the temple. The first
few rays of pale yellow sunlight were beginning to creep over the distant
horizon and the air was filled with bird song. It was the first time for as
long as I could remember that I felt truly at peace with myself. Whistling a
gay little tune I was making up on the spot I strolled up to the great oak
doorway and knocked.

Only a few seconds later the door was opened by a slightly plump, purple clad
monk.

"Aah, you must be the new novitiate."

I nodded, "Yes."

"Do come on in," he continued, "and Brother Methuselah will show you to your
room."

Brother Methuselah was a tall monk with greying hair, and he too was dressed
in the traditional robes of the temple. He looked like the sort of man who
would get on with anyone.

"This way," he motioned.

The monks of the Order of the Thousand Souls were so pleasant I was filled
with regret at the knowledge that I was soon going to have to betray them.

The Gingham Wearer plays: "temple".

This play is accepted, and becomes a loose end.

> Koxvolio attempts to interrupt with "gate".

After some thought, I reject this interruption. The deck I'm using is not
as esoteric as some that I've seen, and so I don't think that a "great
oak doorway" is close enough to a gate. I know I'm "encouraged to be
lenient", but I don't want this to be too easy.

> Also, could somebody tell me if I must now play "gate" as my next turn, or

Had your interruption been accepted, "gate" would have been played as the
interruption, so your next play would have been perforce a different card.

It is now The Gingham Wearer's turn.

The Gingham Wearer: 6 cards
Koxvolio: 8 cards

Loose Ends: temple

Brother Methuselah guided me, walking down the long path from the outer
walls of the temple to the main building, chatting pleasantly on the way
to the spires rising from behind the scattered dormitories and utility
buildings.

Wanting to find out as much as possible about the place I was entering, I
tried to strike up a conversation;

"Will I see the abbot immediately, or must I wait until after Compline?"

Methuselah looked up at me, raised an eyebrow, and muttered "You'll meet
him".

"I am looking forward to sealing my vows".

This time he stopped for a moment, turned, and looked at me intently. "I'm
sure you are". And continued along the path.

"But I've heard that I will swear before the Angelus itself here. Is it as
beautiful as it's said to be?"

Methuselah sighed, half smiling. Stopping again, he looked at me, and said
the longest sentence I'd yet gotten out of him.

"You will hold the Angel herself when you become one of us, but this is
some way off yet. Do not fear though. The Angelus - she is beautiful, and
it will not be so long before you are ready."

I hoped not - if I was to escape with the most prized relic of the Order,
it would make it easier if it were given to me.

I think I have identified a new disease, which we must therefore name
"Koxvolio's disease" or Volio for short. Symptoms include presumption
of acceptance and failure to fully read e-mail.

I think the rules handle this situation, but the referee should read them

You didn't have a "go" anyway, apart from one you might get from an accepted
interrupt. Surely you didn't think the first play of the game would be
rejected? Please read the rules for YORL on the web page. In YORL, a
player keeps playing until he passes (default or otherwise), is interrupted
successfully, or makes an unsuccessful play.
