I have choosen my five letter word. So far as I can tell, the duel will
now being whenever one of the players announces that the duel between
breadbox and Vynd, a game of double Crash, has begun. Hrm, looks like I
just did.

(Apparently Vynd contends that his actions of attempting to associate
his counterfeit office that has as its stated goals: "graft and
brown-nosing" with the Office to which I answer is not a slight I need
trouble myself with defending. Perhaps he believes that it is not a
slight to begin with? Feh. I will see this through.)

I would like to suggest that, before the game begins, that we each
disclose our chosen words to a trusted third party. Double Crash
requires no referee; but by having an outsider who can testify at the
end of the Duel that we did not change our words in mid-game, we
can prevent future suspicions from breeding.

If we can agree to this failsafe measure, I would like to suggest
Malenkai as the closest thing we have to a neutral party that I know
we can both agree on. This will require no participation on his part
during the Duel, so it should not present him with any great workload.

If Vynd and Malenkai are both willing, I shall send him my chosen word
at once.

well, I think I just started the game, actually. But I am willing to do
this if you feel it is necessary. It's kind of hard to cheat at
Masterm... err, Double Crash, except by choosing a word after the first
salvo but before responding, so far as I can see. In any case, I will
send malenkai my word right now, and trust that, even if he isn't willing
to "referee" for us, he won't reveal my word to anyone else.

OK, I have sent Malenkai my word. I find it interesting to note that,
even if it were to be revealed that I changed my word (or you yours)
mid-game, it wouldn't prevent me from winning (or you) so long as my
responses didn't contain any errors and the word I changed to is in the
official dictionary. Not that I have any intention of doing so. :) It
sounds like all you want is a way for anyone with a gripe to know that
there wasn't any cheating, though.

Ah, well. I too have sent Malenkai my word, but I have no way to show
that I haven't already seen your first salvo. So, it is pointless.

Never mind, then. This Duel will be fought on the Field of Honor and

I am undone! I screwed up. :( This should only have 5 words in it,
obviously. Looking at the rules, I don't think this has any effect, I
just have to send another second round. breadbox, don't respond to these
:(

Its interesting to note that although the salvos must be in the OD, I
do not believe the actual target words need to be. At least that's the
way it seemed to be when I played this game for the first time. I
was considering exploiting this loophole and using 'xyzzy' (a word
breadbox prolly would get anyway), but that did not seem honorable.
Even I have some standards when it comes to loophole surfing :-)

Brusari did not know how long he had been sitting before the fire, inhaling
the sweet-smelling _sroth_ smoke that came from the herbs that Jhonis was
crumbling into the flames. While some small part of his mind was still
sitting by the fire, most of it had crossed over into the dreamtime.

The dreamtime was a harsh and jagged place right now, with the war and
rioting. But underneath that there was the building force that Jhonis had
become aware of only a few days earlier, a tension that would soon release
a burst of energy from the dreamtime into the real world. The fulfillment
of the prophecy written in the Cryspark Testament.

So Brusari almost missed the Messenger's arrival at first. First of all,
he had entered the dreamtime through the wilder fringes, which was a mixed
blessing. Most of the cityfolk came into the dreamtime with their minds
closed, fixed on themselves, because they knew it was not real. Or they
came in through their hard city drugs, and didn't think that anything was
real. But as Brusari neared the Messenger, traveling through the
dreamtime's non-distance, he saw that the Messenger was aware of himself
and his surroundings. He had used a natural drug, then, that only stripped
away the self's preconceptions.

"Greetings, Messenger," Brusari said. "Life is long, but time is short.
Luckily, here it is life's hourglass that turns for us. Follow me."

On the other hand, I can't seem to find anything that specifically
(another one for Alfvaen!) requires the *Salvos* to be words, so this
may be what you had in mind.

Weird. If I had the option of posting any set of five-character
strings as my Salvos, my strategy would definitely be different. And,
I contend, the game would be less challenging. I think this rule may
need fixing.

I think for the time being it would be best if Vynd and I kept playing
as we have been, though. Worry about this stuff later....

Yes, that is what I had in mind. My mind is fogging up fast. Its amazing
because I misremembered pretty close to reading it, prolly because I
decided I would play both in the OD and not worry about it.
