Alfvaen picked n as the magic letter.

There are some n's in the truth:

IF AND ONLY IF today *** **** *n **n*** *** *n *** n***** ** *n**,
THEN the Machine That Goes *ping* shall go *ping*.

/dev/joe
Has loaned out the pedestal of *ping*, to protect it from possible
Thermonuclear Explosion, which somehow does not affect the Machine.

/dev/joe, wise scholar of *ping*, I assert that the truth of the
Machine is:

IF AND ONLY IF today the date in binary has an odd number of ones,
THEN the Machine That Goes *ping* shall go *ping*.

Oh, my. As I filled in the magic letter, I wondered if it would be enough
information for anyone to figure out the truth. breadbox, perhaps my
biggest treasure-hunting competitor, has deciphered the truth within
minutes of the first Magic Letter being filled in. Congratulations,
breadbox, and may your study of the machine run as smoothly and error-free
as the one just concluded has been. Sorry about the machine arriving
without its pedestal. ThinMan, please pass the pedestal along to breadbox,
as I won't be needing it back.

The crux was the first four words: "*** **** *n **n***". Given the
assumption that the first two were "the date", the next word could
only reasonably be "on" or "in". "In" would indicate that the next
word was the name of some kind of notation. Given that the dates had
included all the powers of two, it didn't take long to come up with
"binary".

*deep bow* Thank you, /dev/joe, for your kind words. I will go dig out
my old cron/sendmail programs at once....

I had no clue what the words were going to be, but I did notice the first
four powers of two(counting 1)in there, and that might have clued me in
too. But breadbox's mind was working more quickly than mine. (Although
who's to know what would've happened had I gotten to work five minutes
earlier...:-)

Actually, I wasn't sure if that was how you did it in the case
of the Brass Pot, and I do not think it takes on acka-games.

Malenkai
who would have started the game were it not for that unexpected
clicking noise from the 12 year old CD player :(

The ante is A$20. The players and play order are below. There are
8 benches in the game. When playing a card, you must work the concept
into the story, not just mention it. Interrupts, however, tend to be
judged more liberally. Be on the lookout for interrupts, or some
BWG-harfer may tell the whole story :) Please include "Lantern" in
the subject line, or the play must be denied. Lines containing whitespace
only do not count towards story length. Thats it for the lawyerware.

I will try to keep pretty close to the 3 day limit to keep the game moving
along. I will probably allow at least 24 to 36 hours before approving
a play, though, to allow interrupt time (Technically you have 3 days to
interrupt).

Game state and story is at http://www.itw.com/~malenkai/ackayorl.htm
Cards will be delivered by private mail shortly.

I'm not sure how the bot-harfer wants to handle the ante. 2 players have
paid, I will leave that up to him.
