Mr. Tambourine Man's Comment:
Since everyone else has been objecting to my CSRs recently I think I'm going to object to this. My main problem is with having Peter Suber as literature since this would include the nomic initial set and we've already decided that having the rules of Ackanomic as iterature isn't a good idea since it is fairly easy to use. Quite a few of the other bits I agree with, although I must admit I've neer heard of quite a few ofthem.

Result: rufus and Mr. Tambourine Man objected by Sat 05 Sep 1998 09:29 EDT

Append the following text to the end of rule 320:

"[Link to the governments]"

Replace the following OOPS delimited text with the following SORRY! delimited text:

OOPS
All existing Government Types are defined by rules within this rule suite, and then only by rules with a name "Government Type: " where is replaced by a legal Ackanomic name. The name of the Government Type as specified in that rule shall then be . Such rules, and only such rules, are known as Governmental Rules.
OOPS

SORRY
All existing Government Types are defined by rules within this rule suite, and then only by rules with a name "Government Type: X" where X is replaced by a legal Ackanomic name. The name of the Government Type as specified in that rule shall then be X (as used above). Such rules, and only such rules, are known as Governmental Rules.
SORRY

Renmuber rule 1390.8 to 320.6

Create a new rule reading as follows:

"{{The current government of Ackanomia is set to Democracy. All votes cast by any players since the adoption 3495 are counted. This rule takes precedence over rule 103 (Retroactive Effects)}}"

rufus' Comment:
presumably, this creates a rule in the Miscellaneous Rule Suite? then the following won't work.

>
> "{{The current government of Ackanomia is set to Democracy. All votes
> cast by any players since the adoption 3495 are counted. This rule
> takes precedence over rule 103 (Retroactive Effects)}}" DUH

therefore, I object to this CSR

Mr. Tambourine Man's Comment:
Oh poot! I object to this CSR too.

Common Sense Report 159 - Thu 10 Sep 1998 13:54 EDT
Weishaupt (Gabriel Drummond-Cole)
Result: JT and IdiotBoy objected by Thu 10 Sep 1998 14:43 EDT

Add the following to the literature list:

Artist: Isaac Newton
Artist: Thomas Jefferson
Artist: Thomas Paine
Artist: Ezra Pound
Artist: Werner Heisenberg
Artist: Niels Bohr

JT's Comment:
Just to be ornery, I'm going to object to this because of Piers Anthony. The guy writes too much drivel and I don't want to see it quoted as literature :)
IdiotBoy's Comment:
On the off chance that this is a valid CSR and not the same CSR as the one to which I have already objected:

I object to this CSR.

Common Sense Report 160 - Thu 10 Sep 1998 18:09 EDT
Mr. Tambourine Man (Tom Walmsley)
Result: Weishaput and rufus objected by Thu 10 Sep 1998 21:57 EDT

Amend the literature list by replacing "Nabakov" with "Nabokov"

Remove each of the following lines from the literature list:

Artist: Aeschylus ; Greek Playwright
Artist: Aristotle
Artist: Confucius
Artist: Descartes
Artist: Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Artist: Karl Marx
Artist: Leo Tolstoy
Artist: Plato
Artist: Sophocles
Artist: Sigmund Freud
Work: The Aeneid
Work: The Art of War ; by Sun-Tzu
Work: The Bible, Old and New Testaments
Work: The Prince ; by Machiavelli
Artist: Albert Einstein
Artist: Chaucer
Artist: Boris Pasternak
Artist: Dante Alighieri ; you know, The Inferno guy
Work: the Magna Carta
Artist: Friedrich Nietzsche
Work: The Decameron ; by Boccacio
Artist: Hermann Hesse
Artist: Jean-Paul Sartre

Weishaupt's Comment:
I object. Although i agree with most of this, I have serious reservations about removing these artists/works without replacing them with applicable translations. Furthermore, there are some entries here for which no one *definitive* translation exists. Rather than taking this as an indication that they be removed from the list, I think this means that all reasonable translations (and this is not weasel-ish; it's easy to challenge) should be allowed.
rufus's Comment:
I object to this CSR for much the same reasons as Weisphaut did. Also, isn't it inconsistent? I mean, surely Nabokov published things in Russian?

Common Sense Report 161 - Tue 15 Sep 1998 10:41 EDT
Wild Card (Jonathan David Amery)
Result: Weishaput and Mr. Tambourine Man objected by Tue 15 Sep 1998 13:02 EDT

If there is an entry in the literature list reading (WW-delimited)
WW
Work: The Bible, Old and New Testaments
WW
remove it.

Add to the literature list:

Work: The King James Version of the Bible, any books therin that exist.
Work: The Revised English Version of the Bible, any books therin that exist.

{{[KJV is the "traditional" ye olde version of the Book, REB is a pretty good modern translation.]}}

Weishaupt's Comment:
I object, sorry. I think that it's a terrible idea to limit us to those translations as literature. Further, it's discriminatory; those Bibles will generally be the Bibles of Protestant denominations; Catholics and Jews (nd maybe Orthodox, i'm not sure) use their own translations which should be considered as valid. Further, these two translations aren't even definitive Protestant Bibles. What about all the other modern translations? The New American Standard is pretty good, in my opinion. But I wouldn't limit it to just the NAS. I think that it's a bad idea to limit the Bible (at least) like this.
Mr. Tambourine Man's Comment:
I object to this too but for a totally different reason. And yes it's incredibly picky. My reason for objecting is that the syntax is not that required by the literature list. Try a semicolon instead of a comma.
