1. This game is named BB Nomic. All Players must abide by the most recent legally-updated Ruleset on the BB. Other posted Rulesets should be ignored.
2. "BB" in this ruleset is taken to mean this bulletin board, located at http://www.nomic.net/~g2
3. All players must abide by all rules currently in effect. The author of each message posted to the BB is considered a player, unless they state that they do not wish to be a player. The Roster, or list of players, is part of the game state. Any player may forfeit their player status at will by by posting their forfeiture to the BB.
4. The Administrator is a player who is responsible for maintaining the ruleset and the game state, and regularly posting these to the BB. The identification of the Administrator is part of the game state.
5. Any Player may propose a rule change by posting to the Board a message with a subject of the form "Proposal [n]: [desc]", where "[n]" is a unique integer and "[desc]" is a brief descriptive text.
The body of this message should detail the proposed change or changes to the Ruleset. A newly-proposed Proposal is considered Live.
Any Player may cast a single Vote for or against a Live Proposal, by responding to it with a message having the subject line "Vote : [vote]", where "[vote]" is their vote of choice, in capital letters. If the vote message contains an explanation of the vote in which the voter wishes to draw other Players' attention to, the phrase "(explained)" may be appended to the subject line.".
If a Proposal has received three Votes in favour, or three Votes against, it immediately ceases to be a Live Proposal. If it received three Votes in favour, it becomes a Pending Proposal.
If any Pending Proposals exists, the Administrator should administer the changes proposed by the one with the lowest number. That Proposal then ceases to be Pending.
6. The score of each player is part of the game state. Initially the score of a player is 0.
7. Anything not prohibited in the rules is allowed. The game state may only be changed as described in the rules.
8. Every player who votes for or against a proposal gains one point to their score.
A player whose proposal is accepted gains 10 points. A player whose proposal is rebuked loses 5 points.
No player can have negative points - if they have a score of zero, it doesn't drop below.
9. Webcrawl is a subgame of BB Nomic.
A Move in Webcrawl consists of a URL, and an optional claiming of Points; a Move is made in a posting to the bulletin board with a subject line "Webcrawl : [url]", where "[url]" is the Move's URL, and with any claimed points being given in brackets afterwards.
A Move is only valid if:-
Its URL can be reached with one click from the page at the URL of the previous Webcrawl Move, without any form fields being changed from their default values. (If there is no previous Move, any URL is valid.)
The Player making it made neither of the two previous Webcrawl Moves.
The URL has not been used in either of the two previous Webcrawl Moves.
Players can claim Points if the page at a Move's URL contains any of the items on the following list. If any claims have been unprocessed, the Administrator should process the earliest one, awarding Points if the claim is valid (if he is able to see the item when visiting the URL directly). Players may not claim the same item more than once in a Move.
The word "Nomic" - 5 Points
The title of a song by the Smiths - 8 Points
A map of, or part of a map of, the London Underground - 10 Points
Players are, of course, free to Propose further claim items.
10. There are five Extra Votes. Initially they are all unowned.
When a player first passes 100, 250 or 500 points, if there is one or more unowned Extra Votes, the ownership of one Extra Vote is transferred to that player.
A player who owns an Extra Vote may use that Extra Vote to cast a second vote on a proposal, provided that no Extra Vote has already been used on that proposal. This causes the Extra Vote to become unowned.
Extra Votes are part of the game state.
